This content is protected Hunter was a sloppy mess at 218. He didn't carry the weight well. At cruiserweight I doubt he ever rehydrated over 210 lbs. I doubt Hunter could be effective against any top 10 heavyweight at 218 lbs, since at 205-210 he would at least have a speed advantage, but with his lack of punching power and his limited skill set I don't see him going far in the heavyweight division. This content is protected Joe Louis when he was 218 still had an inshape body. Louis carried the weight much better than Hunter did.
Hunter was a little fleshy at the weight, but not by any great degree. I'd say 210 was a good guess for how much he rehydrated to at cruiser. My point was, that'd still put Louis in cruiserweight territory, unless he was randomly dehydrating himself at heavy. It's hard to tell how inshape he was from the quality of the footage. Plus, some guys distribute the weight in their hips and legs and don't show it much in their upper bodies. More pertinent, I think, is how slow and hittable he looks. It clearly wasn't a good weight for him, or one which he willingly trained down to when in his prime.
Thought it might be interesting to revisit this thread. Gassiev has moved up in weight but so far has not really scored any notable wins.
His power's carried up, but he still looks to be a bit too passive. Regarding the Foreman matchup my prediction is still the same, Foreman uses his jab and push offs to keep Gassiev behind his guard and landing his own shots. Whether he wins a UD or a TKO I guess depends on how well Gassiev takes a HW punch. But no one with Gassiev's style is going to beat Foreman unless they're significantly larger or faster than him.
Do you think the extra weight has impacted his quickness? He was over 230 in his last fight and I thought the extra weight might benefit him in this matchup as it might make it harder for Foreman to back him up and outmuscle him easily. He would be one of Foreman's heaviest opponents at 234
