Just was thinking about these two matches, I think that putting a young Foreman up against two iron chinned lads who would be able to fight back (Unlike Chuvalo) would make for fun exciting fights that could really go any way- What do you see happening?
Do you mean 90's Foreman? Ray Mercer was food for Old Foreman. He would have no answer the telephone pole jab, the thudding body shots, and the tight fortress guard. Mercer was wildly inconsistent. Even at his best, he lacked the combination of skill, technique, and power to really trouble Foreman and is giving up significant advantages in height, reach, experience, etc. Foreman wins a lopsided decision. Just beats him up at his own game. Mercer is a come forward slugger at heart and would not win using this method. He lacks the creativity to adjust his style the way Morrison did. McCall is a different conversation. He could be cautious, had good timing, and better fundamentals than Mercer. McCall was actually a pretty decent boxer, but could also be inconsistent and lost multiple fights he could've won. The main difference is, McCall was better at winning rounds and sticking to a game plan. He also wouldn't be on the front foot pressing the issue and could back off or go into his shell when hurt. I think Foreman would take the early rounds with his huge power, aggression, and physicality, McCall starts making adjustments slowing the pace down with mid range boxing and defense, then the late rounds are close with some ebb and flow. Not sure who wins, but the best version of McCall might pull off a narrow points win.
I think they would give him good fights. Mercer at his best was maybe a little light in the pants for a prime Foreman. McCall might be a better match and in fact might make Foreman blow his wad trying to get him out of there which was Foreman's usual achilles heel.
I don't give McCall a better chance than Mercer. McCall was pretty basic and slow boxer, and I genuinely believe that at least until his 40s Mercer chin was not ANY worse than McCall's
I mean, it Foreman/Mercer could end up like Lewis/Mercer. Mercer hit as hard as Lyle and had a better chin. So Foreman would have to work fast in getting Mercer out of there. McCall also had enough size and power to deck Foreman, but I lean towards Foreman.
