I'm a massive Marciano fan, and I don't subscribe to the theory that Foreman would've had his way with any come-forward swarming fighter, but stylistically I still see this fight as one of the toughest possible for Rocky.

Even though Foremans punches were slow and he was a little lumbering, Frazier had enormous trouble getting inside the required range to land his big shots.

Marciano had less head movement, and his footwork was sloppier, so you can only imagine he'd get tagged bigtime trying to get inside Foreman, and even if he did, Foreman was a big tough boy that could take a few shots and would've been clever enough to clinch the smaller man.

On the other hand there is evidence that Marciano was slightly more patient than Frazier - Liked to crouch and tilt his head back and work his way inside at a slower tempo, might've been a bit different a challenge for big George. A better two-handed puncher also.

Still, I see a late stoppage for Foreman. lets say TKO 8 or 9.

Is there anyone out there that can lead me to believe Marciano stands a chance?

Foreman would bulldoze through him, this would echo the Frazier fights only with perhaps an even earlier, more brutal stopage. :good

I think it may well end earlier, there's not much in it between the two regarding the 'chin department'. Marciano has a far less polished style, is a more one dimensional fighter than Frazier, in addition he's also way easier to hit clean (Foreman landed on Frazier alot in their two fights...)

He'd come straight at Foreman from the bell- disaster if you're the smaller fighter. Rocky is tough, but Foreman would mow through him sooner or later.

It also depends on how lenient the referee is. Whether the ref allows George to push Marciano away (like he did against Frazier) in order to create space to set up his big shots. If George is prevented from doing this, then it could turn out to be a very interesting fight as Marciano could smother Foreman and prevent him from getting anything going.

Good point, under today's rules you can't get away with it but back then you could.

I think Marciano does better than Frazier because of his less predictable defence, two fisted attack and better chin. I think Foreman will get him in 3 or 4 rounds. However, if it goes past the 6th, look for Marciano to come on late and knock an exhausted Foreman out. If Foreman is gonna score a knockout, it's gonna happen early, not in the 8th or anything.

This fight would never happen because Al Weill wouldn't allow it.:good

Just STFU, you joke of a poster! That´s why he fought in his 4th fight an unbeaten fighter and in his 5th fight a 26-0-1 fighter with 23 KO´s. Marciano isn´t chanceless in this matchup, I remember the Lyle-fight, and Ron was an ordinary fighter in contrast to Marciano...

That was before Weill took over and enslaved him. There's no way he would let Marciano in on any real competition that early in his career. And he certainly wouldn't let him fight Foreman if he could help it, that's for sure.

P.S. - Lyle may have been an ordinary fighter (even though he was better than all that), but he was an extraordinary puncher.:good

    Correction,

In his 5th pro fight, Marciano fought Eddie Ross, who was 15-0, and weighing 175 Lbs. Foreman struggled with Lyle, but Ron was one of the best contenders in an era that was arguably the most competitive in heavyweight history. Rocky struggled with a lot more guys then George did.

Lyle was a very good fighter in a very good era, and he was a good puncher. But Marciano was a great fighter and a great puncher. He punched with both hands harder and wasn´t so predictable... you can logically come with the argument (when you always come with the Frazier- fights) that if Lyle almost beat Foreman in a brawl, Marciano could do it...

Thx for correcting my spelling mistake, but IMO Marciano would NEVER lose to a fighter like Young for example... Marciano defeated during his title reign very strong fighters, Foreman didn´t look that good during his "title reign"...

    Not really,

Lyle and Marciano fought two totally different types of styles. Marciano had a lot more in common with Joe Frazier than he did Lyle, and look at what George did to Joe.

But you can´t always come with that. Than I can say Holmes would easily defeat George, because Young and Ali also defeated him. I know that Frazier and Marcianow had almost equal fighting styles, but the differences here are, that Marciano had a better chin and more power in both hands...
