anyone who thinks marciano gets wiped out by foreman needs to watch this fight 9 months before a peak foreman won the title.

same size amd style as marciano, 15-5-1 Ted gullick had not won a fight in his last 4 outings, had drew in london to 11-3 billy aird and Ted was also KOd by terry daniels.

Gullick did not do anything wrong against foreman, he just did not have marciano's chin (since a terry daniels never would KO marciano) or marcianos punch (since gullick did not Knock out aird who LH john conteh did.

I wonder how much effect marciano would make on george landing at the same moments as gullick does?

    make your own mind up....

You have gone and done it now....Countdown to combatdeboxeo and foreman hook's uniquely poetic mental meanderings.

    "poetic"

Sometimes, I feel as though certain folks have seen one fight by Foreman (perhaps the Caracas affair) and have extrapolated those results to cover his entire career. The reality was that Foreman, despite his prodigious talents, was green as a sapling and readily exposed for moments during his career that earlier opponents did not have the skill or talents to exploit.

The Foreman from that Gullick fight would be in trouble against Marciano, quite frankly. I do, however, see a difference in the fighter in that fight vs the Foreman from the Frazier and Norton fights...

He seemed much more confident and assertive. Maybe someone else can explain better, but Foreman was always defensively sloppy (that's being nice), but it seems in his two biggest and most impressive wins, his offense was his defense, and he seemed less vulnerable.

Seamus: good point on the people extrapolating results over the career... I think we have all been guilty of this at one point or another regarding certain fighters.

And yet between the gulick and frazier fights foreman fought two easy fights. the much smaller, 195lb migel paez who joe bugner had just KOd and the pathetic terry sorrell who at 4-16 had been fighting since 1956 and had not won a fight in the last 12 years!

:goodI hold my hand up, marciano looked like **** against savold...

Look at Joe Frazier's weight in the first Ali fight and then look at his weight when he fought Foreman. He was 10 pounds fatter.

After beating Muhammad Ali, Frazier thought he had got rid of the last good opponent out there for him. Everyone saw Foreman as a joke. So Frazier just indulged in food, and stopped keeping his body in shape. Against Foreman, his speed was gone.

Marciano always trained like a dog. He would get rid of Foreman quickly. Remember Foreman had no defense.

    If 'A' beats 'B', and 'B' beats 'C',,,,,,,,,does that mean 'A' beats 'C'.

Clay Hodges beat George Foreman, not once, but twice,,,,,,,,,,Clay Who,,?

You have to realise that those two fights with Hodges took place when Foreman was a raw 19 year old with only a handful of amateur bouts under his belt. Hodges was also a very good amateur and was a two time national golden gloves winner. Even back then amateur boxing was still a lot different than pro boxing. Its easy to tell this just by looking how far Hodges went as a pro.

    Sporto,

    Yes, I understand that.....

But no one knows, until 2 fighters get in the ring.
The 'consensus' says, 'Big' George Foreman should destroy 'little' Rocky Marciano.

Hodges had the makings of a good pro but he did not have george foreman's matchmaker. he fought jimmy young (and beat him) in his 3rd fight then got a freak injury in his next fight against a guy 20lb heavier and was forced to retire.

I never heard about him getting injured, i just assumed he wasnt suited to the pro game after getting stopped by a guy with a 2-2 record. What type of injury did he get? He definitely had a decent amateur pedigree and must have had good boxing skills to outbox a crude and young but still powerful foreman. So if it was an injury that held him back in the pros, thats a shame.

  15. it is really absurd and stupid, poor guys losing his time talking nonsense to give marciano any poor chance against foreman.
JOE FRAZIER WAS BETTER THAN MARCIANO IN EVERYTHING AND FOREMAN RAPED HIM. FRAZIER WEIGHED 214 POUNDS, ROCKY 185, FRAZIER WAS FASTER THAN MARCIANO, FRAZIER HAD EQUAL STAMINA IF NOT MORE, FRAZIER HAD MORE HEART,MARCIANO WAS SLOW LIKE THE HELL WITH HIS LEGS, FRAZIER HAD BETTER DEFENCE THAN MARCIANO, FRAZIER DID MORE PRESSURE THAN MARCIANO, THE RIGHT HAND OF MARCIANO IS ABSOLUTELY OVERRATED, THIS GUY FACED KIDS, OLD MEN, BUMS AND WALCOTT OR CHARLES WHO WERE PAST HIS PRIME AND THEY WERE NOT EVEN HWs. HIS CHIN IS ABSOLUTELY OVERRATED. PLEASE, STOP TO TALK PURE ****. MARCIANO WOULD HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO CHANCE AGAINST FOREMAN, PLAIN AND SIMPLE. THE DEBATE SHOULD BE COULD ROCKY GO MORE OF 2 ROUNDS AGAINST FOREMAN?
THIS FIGHT WOULD NOT BE EVEN A FIGHT, IT WOULD BE A MASSACRE.FOREMAN WAS MUCH BIGGER,MUCH STRONGER, HE HAD BETETR CHIN, HE HAD FASTER LEGS, MUCH HARDER PUNCHER,LONGER REACH AND HE WOULD HANDLE ROCKY LIKE A DOLL. LMAO SOME SIMPLETONS COMPARED VINGO WITH FOREMAN , WHAT A JOKE. READ IT. N O C H A N C E. THE MOST FUNNY THING IS THAT THE ROCKY FANS THINK THAT IT IS EVEN DEBATABLE, LMAO, EVEN THE 90% OF THE PEOPLE AND THE EXPERTS KNOW THAT FOREMAN WOULD KO TYSON(WHO WAS BIGGER,STRONGER,HARDER PUNCHER AND BETTER THAN MARCIANO IN EVERYTHING), WHO WOULD BE A MUCH BETTER RIVAL, MARCIANO HAS ZERO CHANCE, IT IS NOT EVEN DEBATABLE. CUS DAMATO WAS A MASTER OF THE BOXING AND THE STYLES AND HE SAID THAT MARCIANO,PATTERSON,FRAZIER AND ANY SHORT PUNCHER WOULD HAVE NO CHANCE AGAINST FOREMAN.
