first to compare rocky to frazier you must factor in a few things, according to bob foster joe was a pretty bad alcoholic and you never know if this eroded joe's skills when fighting george(as far as i know rocky did not drink). two,joe wore contact lenses and they may have been dislodged, making joe less able to see what's coming.if you think the height was a major factor (rocky's 5'9" to george's 6'3") watch the qawi fight(5'6.5") he landed many clean punches on george weighing a robust 222lb! i think the big factors(in determining the winner) would be rocky's stamina or george's uppercut, they were both super strong, hit hard good chins, and desire.

    .

If you want to hypothesize try this on for size.

If Frazier had been made to fight the outstanding contender after March 8th 1971 he would not have defended against Foreman at all because he would have been dethroned by Ali .

Instead of which he fought two nobodies and held the title for 2 years whilst deserving challengers were ignored.

This is true. :good The next strong challenger was going to beat Frazier. He had already peaked.

How would 1972 Foreman do challenging Ali? The consequences of the champion or a good challenger not fighting the outstanding contender is that some potentially good prospects not winding up as champion. Foreman did not fight enough good contenders on the way up and it told. He was not as well prepared for championship level as he might have been. Getting past frozen Norton (great win!) Is one thing but Ali or Marciano?

Rocky shouldn't really be involved in these mismatches. Compare him with guys his own size.

Frazier was blind in both eyes, ringworn, had a bad arm, an in-grown toe-nail, torn cartilage in his knee was a very old 29, was drugged before hand, and suffered a dizzy spell getting into the ring. Otherwise it would have been a different story.

Marciano would fight George like David Haye fought Valuev. And like he fought the bigger and taller Joe Louis:

Marciano is a very crafty operator. Notice how he's too far away for Louis to hit him, then comes crashing in with his short power shots, and then he's out again.

Foreman was much slower and more predictable than Joe Louis, even this version of Joe Louis.

And if you're talking about the comeback version of George Foreman (who was smarter than the younger version), then just watch as Tommy Morrison outboxes him. Morrison was a poor man's version of Marciano/Tyson.

Frazier was still a good fighter against anyone who did not have world class KO power when he fought George but in order to be competative he needed to be on top of his game. He wasn't. As it turned out Joe was ripe for the next good challenger because his punch resistance and range was severely reduced. I would have lost money on Frazier as lot of people did.

Aside from Foreman all Joe's opponents after TFOTC were either world class non punchers or faded former foes. His people knew the first Ali fight limited him against punchers.

Yes well look at his opposition. Loads of great heavyweights would run through Rocky's resume with ease. I like Marciano, but Foreman wins here.

I agree the younger Foreman was easy to nail with right hands and slow, this would be a fight that he would feel the power of Marciano inside, the Louis fight shows Marciano's inside game and the Lyle fight shows where George can be hit and dropped and hurt only that Marciano was a more brutal puncher than Lyle

I am not saying it is written in stone but I laugh at posters who think it is a sure thing win for Foreman like a certainty and i personally like Marciano by KO
