The way I see it, Frazier's success in the rematch means its not an impossibilty for Marciano to avoid or negate Foreman's punches from the crouch.

So he has a chance, the margin of error is slim, but a broken down Frazier kept it going for 5 rounds until he tired out. So yes, Foreman should be favored but its not parting the Red Seas to suggest Rocky could in theory emulate that and take Foreman into deep waters where anything could happen.

Sorry wankers, but discussing how Marciano could pull this upset off is going to be brought up from time to time. Please resume a flurry of "Foreman KO 2" posts so it doesn't look like we are talking boxing or anything here.

I certainly wouldn't rule either Rock out with foreman, but its slim pickings and no one outside a sanitarium's gonna bet their mortgage on it.

If you think survivig for 5 rounds by keeping away was a success then you are easily pleased imo. And yes Foreman is going to wind down like a clockwork toy because after throwing monster punches at the best heavyweight of all time he succumbed to the humidity. All Marciano has to do is take those monster punches for about 8 rounds and he is home free.

    Nothing to it.

    Why the childish insults?:huh

Why not a 40/42 years old ex hvy dropped him in the second, a 37 years old man dropped him in the first?:think

Do you think either of them hit like Foreman?

I agree. It's not easy for Rocky by any stretch but the sheer lack of live opposition in 1972 has to work against George too. His defence was naive. Joe had one weapon, a left hook, and he stood square enough to be pushed back.

Rocky with a side on footing is not going back so easily with one foot behind him. From that footing the Foreman uppercut has to pass the front shoulder, elbow and gloves to land. It is not getting the same opening or connection making Rocky harder to catch with an uppercut.

Against Joe the uppercut travled above both feet between both hands and was a direct hit under his chin.

The comparisons with Frazier end with height and workrate. Entirely different stance, punch resistance, weapons and method.

I don't say Frazier was that much easier to hurt than Marciano.Marciano said he was hurt by Moore's shot and looked it when he got up.He was fresh then, same as the Walcott kd, not tiring late in a fight .

Moore nearly killed decent sized rated heavyweight contender Aljandro Lavorante in 1962. He punched hard.

you gotta wonder why Marciano was defending against guys who were 40something.

There is the thing about his mob connections, perhaps they figure into his poor opposition, and why for instance, he never fought Liston (though they were of comparable ages edit - or perhaps they weren't, his 'official' b'day has him 10 years younger than Rock!).

    Ah, your one of those.

And I will gladly throw in towel if you can find the post where I said Frazier beat Foreman.

Liston didn't become a threat to the title until years after Marciano retired making mention of him moot. Walcott, Moore, Lastarza and Charles were the top men in the division during Rocky's reign. Don't know anything about mob connections.
