u know i remember watching a jay leno interview a few years back and foreman was saying how if Ali had 5 dollars he wouldve given you 2 of it..and then they mention how foremans water was poisoned or something [remember that??] and then leno asked him something like "if u werent weakned by the water do u think the outcome wouldve been different"?? and foreman gave an OBVIOUS look of doubt on his face...humble man..
My favorite Foreman moment as commentator was during the riot after bowe v golota...He had some poor guy in a head lock saying 'don't do it son, don't do it'...the guys eyes looked like they were popping out of his head...He didn't look like he was 'doing' anything, other than getting mauled by Big George...I think George enjoyed the riot...
George was great no doubt. I disliked he and Roy. I think Tarver will be very good but he's not a legend. Big George was a Tito nuthugger big-time.
Lennox was great behind the mic...All three were...These guys have perspectives that are truly unique, even if they don't always express it perfectly or make mistakes...If you listened, you would have heard pure genius from all three at times...And I was critical of Lennox and Roy as boxers...
What was the last fight George called? The last one I can remember him calling was Pacquiao - Ledwaba.
Larry Merchant said that. Foreman followed up with "Kirk Johnson knocked out the baby back ribs." I think a few of you are getting your memories mixed up. I'm fairly certain George didn't put some guy in a headlock after Bowe/Golota. At least not on camera. You heard him saying "Don't do it, son," but you couldn't see what was going on.
George Foreman is the only boxer I've heard actually tell the truth about the fights that's he's had. He's the only one who's looked back and said: "You know, I deserved to lose that fight", "He beats me so bad", "He's a better fighter. period.", "I don't think I could have won that fight no matter what."; he's the only one who has taken a sober look back at his career and revises his statements about some of the nonsense he's said, "Yeah, I said that, but I was an idiot and now I know better." You have to, HAVE TO, respect a guy like that. I don't doubt there's still a bit of that hardass in him. You don't spend 30+ years of your life being one person and then suddenly snap and turn it all around in one day.
On HBO the last broadcast I remember was Cotto-Torres and W. Klitschko-Peter. His last one before that on HBO was a year and a half before for Morales-Chavez.
Foreman still had a ton of excuses about Zaire in his autobiography, By George, which came out in the 1990s. This was many years after he claimed he learned to accept the loss to Ali and stop making excuses. The excuses ranged from implying he was drugged to saying he was about to knock Ali out but got distracted by a disloyal friend in the audience rooting for Ali and it ruined his concentration and the moment passed. Even a couple years ago, Foreman still said he was drugged.
