Frazier was so great back in the 70s, but couldn't even pass the physical to fight today.

He cheated on his eye exam, being almost blind in his right eye...which is why his corner had to stop the fight in Manilla....blind in his right eye and couldn't see out of his left...was also why he took so many punches in the 14th round. He could not see them coming.

    GREAT post!!!!

Something which the younger people don't seem to think about. These old legends were a product of their time.

Very true. Ali and Foreman at the time were biggest heavyweights, Same as Klitschkos now

Ustinov, Fury, Valuev, Dimitrenko, Helenius and Thompson are all bigger or the same size in this current era.

You think that Norton having only lost to the likes of a 1970s Ali, shavers, foreman, and holmes has a less impressive career than Klitchkos??

Is it because V.klit has had a long run of title defenses? Im not bating you into arguement I really would just like to see what points you are making this conclusion by.

If that is the case, I have to say that his 10 years of title defenses haven't all been against grade A competition and needs to be discounted and taken into consideration when listing his legacy's greatness.

And you are right... we as fans look at fighters now a different way than historians will 20 years from now or 75 years from now.

STATISTICALLY Wlad is a beast. When all people have of him are his statistics his slew of title defenses against people no one remembers his nearly 50 kos they will see a puffed up statistic and he will be ranked highly because of numbers. Those numbers dont, in my opinion, accurately reflect his accomplishments.

We are watching him as these things happen and we have to judge the fighters of our lives accordingly. A win over Haye, for instance, is not a win over prime ali or even a good showing against ali, to be ATG you have to be SPECTACULAR against ELITE opposition. I've said it on other posts, Wlad DOMINATES in his Era but his legacy should be fore ever tarnished by the lack of availablity of EPIC opposition.

Wlad will be remembered at the lower end of the Top 20 ATG. He has dominated the division for 5 years and even though that was mostly against fat bums on paper he'll look pretty damn good in 20 years.

Maybe George can train his son to fight Wlad then I mean he is so scared and defensive and all it should be an easy fight for him.

Plus, who'd Frazier ever one-shot KO anyways? He was more of an attrition guy without much of a history of early knockouts as he moved up in competition. Seems more like wishful thinking than anything else when people make that call.

George should encourage Monk to take that fight only if he doesn't subscribe to the theory that it's depressing for a father to bury his own son.
