The general concensus is that George Foreman is a Top 10 ATG Fighter. My question is to you guys, where would he beat ranked if he had never had a comeback and retired with the loss to Jimmy Young?

I rate him at #9 taking into acount his second career but he deserved to be fairly high anyway, he knocked out an unbeaten champion in frazier.

You have to rate fighters on their records against the elite.

First time around Foreman still did as much as bowe and buster douglas, I rate them at around the #21-#23 mark, so without the comeback george could sit slightly above them on my ratings.

You rate Buster Douglas near Riddick Bowe? What did Douglas do besides upsetting Tyson that came close to Bowe's career?

I rate him 4 or 5 among the greatest heavyweights... PFP maybe top 50.

At Heavyweight, the lowest I could see him ranked is probably #8, and the highest probably #3.

    P4P, I'd say he's in the 60-70 range.

If he had never came back, he'd still probably rank as a top 10 Heavyweight.

I'm glad someone mentioned Riddick Bowe, because that'd be a good comparison if George hadn't come back. Thank God he did come back, and I rank him in the Top 5.

Without comeback I would rank him in the Top 12.

Even with his comeback his resume has very few great fighters on it.

Holyfield has a better resume than Foreman.

Indeed. Totally dismantling the previously unbeaten Joe Frazier, and following it up with an equally dominant performance against a very capable fighter in Ken Norton gives George many kudos. Only Muhammad Ali was capable of knocking him off in 1974. The Foreman who lost to Ali matches up very well,on a head to head basis, against many of the all time greats that came before, and after him.

At HW he can be as high as #1 and as low as #5.
P4P is a different story , he might make the top 100 .

just about everything. Its prety equal.

neither bowe or douglas were great fighters all their career. they both shone in one great fight each. bowe was bankroled as a future champ from the begining so on paper his early record reads beter than buster who was matched up on a shoe string budget. both failed apallingly after one night as a great fighter.

douglas KO'd Tyson when chalenging for the title where as bowe beat evander on points whilst chalenging.

who thinks hide, donald and golota were any better than mccall, page and berbick when buster beat them?

I have him at #8 at heavyweight. Defenses against Axel Schultz, Crawford Grimsley, Lou Savarese and Shannon Briggs don't cut it. Obviously he was waiting for a shot at Tyson, who would have beat him badly.

Without the regaining of the title 20 years later, I would place him top 15 for his destruction of Frazier. Huge win. His record was padded before that, so yeah, based off his wins over Frazier and Norton (who got mugged against every heavy handed heavyweight).
