One of the things that was a huge factor was the when George was retired from `77-87 he lived a clean life. He wasn't burning the candle at both ends. That coupled with the fact that he retired with relatively low ring miles on him gave him the chance to be a force.
His comeback was interesting for the sport I think. Most boxers make a comeback at some point, but foreman s was different. Out of the picture for ten years he came back a different person. He looked different and his personality hxad changed. People wanted to see him fight even though the guys he was koing were of very low regard. But as time went on u got the feeling that maybe, just maybe he was serious about fighting tyson. One thing that hadn't changed was his punching power and that's what he and tyson had in common. By the time Douglas had come along and George had dealt with cooney the public finally truly believed he was in with a chance. I believe foreman changed a lot of boxers attitudes then to been finished at a certain age. Foreman had nothing to lose coming back is my opinion, if he lost he lost. He was of that age where most boxers are forgotten about and that gave him the confidence to keep on with the comeback, there was no pressure on his shoulders to win. He took on holyfield, lost and then just trundled on. Lost to morrison then did the same. But he did change boxing history and I don't think we'll see any one quite like him again.
