I've been searching through the "Useless information" section of my brain and can't remember why Holmes doesn't really like Foreman. I've got Holmes' autobiography somewhere so may dig that out and try to find out...

The only thing I can think of is that Foreman got a lot of respect despite lacking Holmes' refined style and Holmes is bitter...

That said, I'm sure that Holmes and Foreman were on good terms in the mid 90s and were even going to have their "Old Geezers at Cesers" before one of their wives put a stop to it.

Larry has held a grudge against Foreman since the late 70's. He started calling George out then and has held a grudge because George wouldn't fight him.

As for them fighting in the late 90's, it wasn't their wives that put a stop to it. The promoter didn't have as much money as he thought, so Holmes and Foreman would either have to take a pay cut, or just take the money they got for signing and walk away from the fight. Holmes was willing to take the cut in pay (very rare for him) and Foreman walked.

I know someone who would agree with you, Freddy Askew who fought George early in his career and was ko'd in the first. As a teenager Fred lived on a farm in Tennesee and one day was kicked in the head by an enraged horse, he didn't wake up for two days,,,and Fred said George hit harder.

Holmes is probably bitter that he doesn't have the status/ legacy that foreman has. he should realise that he's not going to get it by talking the way he does. Also you can't compare the Ali of 1974 with the Ali of 1980.

Probably emanates from the fact he beat Ali and Foreman didn't so maybe he feels he should be ahead of Foreman. I wouldn't knock Holmes for dissing Ali- Ali talked **** about other fighters all his career and said things that were very insulting so I wouldn't care less if anyone trash talks him but if I happened to be one of the very few people who beat him I'd be giving him full credit to elevate my own achievement if nothing else...

As I remember I think they were both supposed to be guaranteed 5 mil each and the promoter could not come up with the money so the fight didn't happen.
