Is anyone suprised that Foreman's speech is pretty good considering the fact that he was in some brutal fights
Nah, because in so many cases he got rid of his opponents really quick and had short fights. That knockout power saved him from taking alot of punches other fighters would've taken.
I'm surprised that any boxer who's had more than 10-20 fights can speak and/or think clearly. Unless they were a Paul Spadafora type runner.
Foreman is an anomaly. He was so naturally strong, and punched so hard, he was built with a different kind of toughness than most of his peers.
It us very trajic that many of the boxers that I admired so much when younger are now brain damaged. Overwhwlmingly, most of these boxers seem to come from USA. Their 1970s and 1980s peers from Europe/Britain/Ireland all seem fine. How is this? What are the reasons?
What's ironic is that some of the most obvious brain damage cases were in fighters who were known to be hard to hit....Ali, Benitez, Jimmy Young, Patterson.
Yeah I've wondered this myself,James Tony would need sub titles for me to understand him he's so bad,Thomas Hearnes is another I can't understand,Foreman is remarkably articulate for someone who fought the best and into his forties as well. Have to say I worry for Amir Khan with the punishment he's taken, these kinda things seem to lie dormant for years before it comes out later down the line.
that Milk Dud James Toney... never spoke clearly!! he's always slurred his words... just got a bit worse with his expanding belly and laziness... I bet it's got more to do with his Greasy Buffet Diet than punches to the head! :burger
He he I know what you mean, actually I remember a programme about him where they used him as a study, can't remember the exact findings but his Brain was shot as well his endorphins?
I think you have to take into consideration most of Foreman's fights were short. He didn't take years and years of punishment and 15 round fights like Ali, Frazier, or Quarry or others like them did. In general, I think big punchers fare better in their lives after boxing because of their ability to end fights quickly prevents them from taking to much punishment. Only skilled and strong chinned boxers can really go the distance with them. Lennox Lewis, Gerry ****ey, and Earnie Shavers aren't in that bad a shape either mentally, for the same reasons.
