George's Top 10 Heavyweights, from his website: Description isn't too incredibly intriguing, but interesting to see his opinion. Completely grasping at straws for his reasoning on excluding himself.
Of the top of my head I'd say this list has been on his site for at least 10 years, perhaps much longer. But ya, he makes the list, it's just a question of where. Doesn't appear to be any love lost between him and Holmes however, as he didn't make the list either. He also publicly said that Lewis was the greatest and he's not on the list either. But I think this list was before the lewis-Tyson fight even took place.
Solid list, I don't agree with it all but can not argue with it,Johnson and Patterson too high for my liking but I agree with Louis above all and can not really see Ali lower than 3 but that is my opinion and where is Lennox
Yeah, I actually visited his site for the first time today. Excluding Holmes - even from honorable mention - makes me believe he actually took a brief moment to put it together himself.
i was thinking that myself. i just wonder how much foreman really knows about jack dempsey or jack johnson...or for that matter if he has even seen more then a few joe louis fights.
lol good catch.....Foremans statement is somewhat true:huh but kind of funny coming from the dope in the rope a dope
Yeah, but still... George Foreman is invaluable in my world of boxing history for the 1970s Golden Era. Ali and Frazier were more than enough to define an era, but having an ATG Monster like Big George in the mix albeit with a short reign just puts it over the top. He utterly dismantled an undefeated, undisputed Joe Frazier inside of two rounds, then did the same to another HOFer in Ken Norton. The slugfest with Lyle was another absolute classic. The fact that Ali's victory over George has such magnitude speaks almost equally to Foreman's level as a fighter and champion. If he wasn't ****, then it wouldn't be glorified and romanticized to a fraction of what it is. No. The man was 40-0 with 37 KOs, undisputed hw champion. Foreman's whole attitude and personality of the time period is just perfect.
Yeah I'm sure George said after Lewis-Tyson that Lewis was no top of the tree?? Maybe he said it in the heat of the moment maybe? I would have been inclined to say the same after Lewis blew Rahman to smithereens - that was a truly scintillating performance - did think much to the Lewis-Tyson one - that was just horrible to watch Tyson wasn't even there and he took a beating that it looked to me Lewis didn't really want to put on him
As for the list in general it's a pretty good one - everyone has their opinion but the only one I would be forced to change is Frazier - as great slugger as he was he is not one of the top 5 heavyweights of all time by any stretch of the imagination
