I was just curious the past few days, I know of the destructive power that was Big George in his prime, and that people were going mad over his raw strength, even his pawning jab looked like you'd be hit by bricks, but was anything said about his raw power in his return as "Bigger" George? I'm not trying to dispute his power in his prime, but was wondering if anyone commented on his power during his second time - if so it would add even more credence to his power in his first reign.
What's the old adage ? "The last thing that a puncher loses is his punch" George may not have hit quite as hard as he did in his prime, but he still retained a good deal of his power. His punches may have got to the target slower, but if they got there his opponent knew about it. Michael Moorer will testify to that.
He probably wouldn't. He claims it was a "lucky shot." Yeah, so I guess George spent the whole fight trying to set Moorer up for that "lucky shot." Teddy Atlas kept warning Michael that George was trying to set him up. Anyway, Evander Holyfield said that Foreman hit him harder than any fighter, which says a lot because Holyfield is a guy who observed bombs from Tyson, Lewis, Cooper, Mercer and Bowe.
Evander Holyfield said Foreman hit him the hardest and then Bowe. Dont remember him saying how hard Tyson hit him
I think people talked more about Foreman's lack of power during his comeback. He still hit hard, of course, but he was nothing like the wrecking ball that he was in the '70's. And Holyfield has said different things I guess. I remember him saying right after his fight with Foreman that Michael Dokes hit him harder than Foreman did. And in a later interview, Holyfield said the hardest puncher that he faced was Bowe.
So we cant rely on holyfield lol, thanks for the replies, I know he didnt hit as hard but was just wondering if anyone commented on his power in this state lol, and it seems that people commented that his power wasnt as devastating as before - with is to be expected lol.
They all say it's a "lucky shot" don't they ? I definitely agree with you Hydraulix, that it says a lot when Holyfield picks old George over the others you've mentioned.
Foreman caught Moorer with plenty of right hands, and was setting it up (and Moorer partly set himself up). Not a lucky punch by any means. Moorer took a good amount of punishment in the 10th until going down with two flush right hands set up by a left jab. Moorer would have more of a case if Foreman just let out a wild haymaker and caught Moorer by a chance.
