I don’t mean this so much as a H2H who would win in 1932, although if you want to lend your opinion I would welcome it!

In 1929 Godfrey was blocked in participating in the HW Tourney. In 1930 he was (unfairly) dq’d against Carnera. In February 1932 I have a photo from the Arena Cover

Asking what chance has Godfrey against Schmeling?

My question is how close did this fight come to getting made? Did it not come off because Schmeling lost to Sharkey that June...why did Godfrey never get his shot?

George Godfrey should rightfully have been given a place in that tournament.

Jack Dempsey himself, said that he was the best heavyweight left, after Tunney retired!

I honestly think that he was excluded, because the powers that be, feared that he might actually win it.

Having said that, I suspect that he was always going to run into Schmeling, or a motivated Sharkey.
