He would rather be a **** popular fighter? Wtf? Has Groves took one to many shots to the head already?
Hi, this is George Groves... The first time I have used a boxing forum, apologies if this does not come across clear... The comments made in Fighting Fit magazine are not the reflection of what I really think. I have made a public apologie to Oakey as I would never disrespect a fighter like him. I am not in a postition do that and wouldn't anyway... this is what I have put on the home page of my site.. ***I would like to apologise to Tony Oakey for my comments written in Fighting Fit magazine this month. Reading back what was written during my interview it clearly sounds like I am calling Tony Oakey personally a s*** fighter - which I wasn't. I have known Tony and members of his team for some time now and consider him a friend in the sport. I have high respect for him and would never intentionally try to disrespect him or upset or undermine him in any way. I am not in any postion to do that. The question I was asked was would I rather be a popular fighter or a world champion, and I gave the answer that I would rather be a popular fighter, a people's champion, than an unpopular more successful champion and gave Oakey as an example. The full answer I gave has been condensed to fit into a magazine article. During the question I moved away from the examples I gave and started talking more generally, and yes I did sum up my answer with "I would rather be a popular, s*** fighter", but at this time I was not talking of Oakey or had him or any other fighter in particular in mind. Again, Tony I hope you understand and I apologise for the way this answer has come across.*** you can see this here at http://www.georgegroves.com/ Thank you George
Good stuff George, I am pretty sure most can see you were mis quoted. Classy thing to come on and clear it up, good on you!
Billy started a thread with a legitimate concern about the article, fair enough. George Groves has clarified and apologised, fair enough. End of story. Close thread.
Well said and cleared up George. I agree that you should stick around on the forum - would be cool to hear your opinion on what's currently going in the sport, what your plans are etc.
