George Groves: Future World Champion, really?

    I have listened to other opinions. It's fine to disagree on this. However, you haven't done anything other than cuss me out, time and time again. What do you hope to achieve by doing this, boxfan?

    degale should have had at least a point deducted and he only hurt groves with a head butt.

    Righly or wrongly, I think most people saw an olympic gold medalist completely unable to nail an 'inferior' opponent down, or impose any real strategy of his own. Degale looked inept at times and completely out of ideas. Lots of rounds were fairly even, but human nature probably meant the the judges were always going to favour the 'nicer' fighter (and would you want to face that crowd if you gave Degale the nod in such a close fight?). Groves, on the other hand, clearly had his own strategy and was able to dictate the fight, even if it didn't mean holding the centre of the ring. Haven't seen the punch stats but other people have said that Groves came out on top in terms of punches thrown and landed, which just goes to shoe how ineffective Degale was as the supposedly more aggressive fighter.

    And that's without taking Degale's cheating into account, which should have cost him points (and perhaps did in the end).

    Punch stats say Groves out-threw & out-landed Degale, hopefully you'll manage to get over this loss a little quicker than A-Force....

    I congratulated Groves on Sunday? I gave him props for implementing an effective gameplan? I don't think he deserves props for acting like a gentleman after the fight, DeGale would have done the same. Likewise, Groves would have been desperately bitter had he not been given the decision. Natural. Human nature. It shouldn't even be a talking point.

    Resorting to talking about punch stats is never a good sign.

    Hell naw. Groves chin is no way near good enough. Unless theres a Stieglitz hanging around when he steps up.

    I give my verdict on the fight, you give yours. That's good enough for me. To bring up punch stats as if its gospel isn't however. It was a close fight, I could have conceivably seen a draw.

    I'm not. You just can't seem to grasp the concept that this a Boxing forum, it's primary purpose is to encourage discussions related to the sport. Why do we keep scorecards? History has shown that judging is often incompetent, and scorings rounds is very subjective. There's a number of different factors to consider when scoring. I say Groves lost the fight, I explain my reasoning, and then people like you can offer a counter argument. I say Groves won't be a World Champion, Lazarus makes a compelling argument. Awesome! Cool! Try it, instead of calling me every name under the sun because I'm not on here saying how much of a **** James DeGale is.

    He's not Khan. It doesn't always happen that way. More often than not, if you've got a dodgy chin it ain't going to be a good look at the top level. Especially in this division, there are some big, big guys with heavy punches. Groves physically is like a little kid, he was getting bullied by DeGale at times up close. He was hurt by DeGale who isn't a puncher, hurt even worse and put down by Anderson, sparked as an amateur. Just don't be surprised at the next level if he gets knocked out, thats all I'm saying.

    Interesting that Davies says one ref gave last round a draw and the other 2 to Groves.
    That's the only round i saw and scored it to DeGale.
