George Groves. Graceless.

Tbh mate I don't think he has regressed but has trained too long at a high level without a break. After the 2 fights with Froch he should have taken a decent bit of time off to rest, look at his coach and the set up and if he had any doubts he could have used this time to try sort out his team. He wanted to do things back to front and wanted to basically prove he wasn't damaged after the 2 Froch fights and it has backfired.

I like George and spoke with one of his family at the Badou Jack fight (I thought he won that) and he said that George hadn't had a week off since the first fight with Froch and they thought he needed a rest. That was before he fought and he even said he thought George wouldn't look as explosive because of it. I think he was speaking sense!

Very interesting with it coming from a family member before the fight, he deffo has it, hopefully it is because of what you said an he can be up there an have a great career

 

What happens if he fights DeGale and KO's him. This forum would have a meltdown.

 

Groves was seen as quite a coup at the time coming of his performance in Froch1 and with wembley already signed,agree with the rest though, on the face of it there seems no good reason to sign any of them but looking deeper there are "big" fights/paydays for all of them if managed correctly

 

Always disliked his personality. Wanted him to beat Froch only because I did like Froch more.

 

Was a fan of his from the build up to the De Gale fight were i thought he handled himself well in the face of a very irritable Chunky

But his behavior in the build up to both of the Froch fights completely turned me off him, i thought he acted childish and disrespectful throughout "everything happens for a reason"? His fans also ruined the fight for me @ Wembley but ill not get into that

Its amazing to think where De Gale is now in comparison, arguable the best SMW in the world with worldwide recognition from his peers / boxing experts and journalists. He must smile when he looks back at their situation and rightly so.....

 

My thoughts exactly

His fans put the nail in the coffin though
Slating froch telling him to rematch or retire etc etc
Now look at groves where he is and its already proven he will not reach the heights froch did , then all theses so called boxing fans just evaporated

 

The big mistake Groves made in the build up to Froch II was talking about Carl's insecurities. Those insecurities - craving respect and recognition - were his motivators throughout his career. Before the first fight, Froch felt no threat and nearly paid the price. For the second bout, with Groves chipping away at him constantly, he found bucket loads of motivation again. In a nutshell Groves was literally too clever for his own good and, perversely, lost his own focus by devoting a lot of energy to goading Froch. Hopefully, with SM, he gets back to basics and concentrates on becoming a better boxer rather than being a substandard psychologist.

 

George Groves still has at least 2 more world title fights in him in my opinion, the Degale fight will always be there for him as Hearn knows it sells and then there's Abraham, both with sauerland and could make the fight easily, he's not done by any stretch but he may now have to beat Callum to get a shot at Degale

 

Groves would KO Callum.
