If you notice david price shape you see a man with huge wide shoulders' no neck definition, no depth to his core and no lower back. I see the same sort of thing in groves, pretty wide shoulders, but he's not half as solid as carl froch is, I know you can't judge a fighter on his physique, but groves hasn't got the sinues in every part if his body and looks like he lacks that solid core. David price hasn't really gained that professional muscular physique either he still looks soft. Now I'm not saying they aren't working hard enough but both fighters have shown a lack of punch resistance and stamina in there fights, groves has done a few 10-12 rounders so he seems less effected possibly because of his lighter weight. Both having good punching technique, good speed and price has dynamite in his right hand, I like both of them to do well but something there is lacking. With pricey he has both confidence issues and a lack of proper training camps. For groves he needs to find a decent trainer he can stick with and he has not train like animal like the rest of the wirld champs (like froch) and another example of a real dedicated fighter is burns, he fought with a broken jaw and got a licking from Crawford but still roughed it out. I know not every fighter is as tough as another but if proper training is all those 2 need to challenge properly on the world stage, then it shouldn't be a huge problem.

Groves actually looks a lot more solid than froch in terms of physique, carl has a lower bodyfat percentage but george is bigger in the shoulders and arms. In the end the way they look body wise has nothing to do with anything regarding boxing.

The manner in which Groves went down was alarming, but on second view he was hit perfectly by a guy who carries heavy mitts.

You can't deduce a man's punch resistance via his build.

Carlos Monzon arguably looked a little fragile; he was anything but.

George groves has no neck definition?

His neck is wider than his head!

    These threads.

Happily surrender this to fastboxer and all the other happyheads.

To the trained eye, one look at their physiques tells you who worked harder in camp.

It goes without saying you can't predict a fight on physiques alone. But, when all other things are equal, then fitness is the decider, just as in other sports eg football.

In the case of Froch and Groves it was man vs boy.

You're probably looking with the eyes of the average overweight man on the street with no fitness background if you think Froch looks skinny and weak. He's thinner than Groves but his muscles are rock-hard and bulging.

Froch stays in athletic condition all year around which is why he looks thin to you. Groves doesn't train but eats what he likes so he looks wider normally.

Reminds me of Pacquaio Hatton comparisons. Everyone was saying Hatton was the bigger man, but on fight night he looked smaller. Before the fight Hatton was massive (fat) where Pac was on fight weight and always ripped.

Interesting reading...what about Frank Bruno tho lepinthehood. He had a ****ing decent physique with kneck definition, depth to his core and a lower back. As far as i can remember he did anyway. To be fair to him they were decent shots he took...that had him ****ed. But he was much the same as price and groves, good at dishing it out but couldn't take it back.

Not sure it's as simple as training for it a certain way...but dont know enough about it to discount it...i say it can help.

I always think that one possible theory is...fighters build up a tolerance to taking shots. It's usually the slick/fast fighters(groves/khan/roy jones) or the ones that dish out the beatings a lot more than they take back as soon as it comes back their way they end up crumbling much easier (macaranelli, price, bruno). But both ways you look at it there are too many fighters that contaradict both theories for it too have any sort of certainty.

Their not acclimitised to taking the heavy shots. Like khan, groves, even bruno, you could imagine him dishing it out a lot more than he took in gyms around britain and then 90% of his fights. When the shots came back they all fell apart. Whereas guys like froch take shots throughout their career in the gym and in the ring and it acclimitises them to it. You could imagine going from amatuer to pro and feeling the difference in power on your first week on the job...but go back in 6 months it's normal now. Some of thats down to developing their bodies but can some of it be down to just getting used to the power.

No one really has any hard and fast answers...because i dont think there is one. Weight can play a part as can other things. But i still feel....same way your born with a certain amount of power...your born with punch resistance/durability etc. You can improve what you've got...but you've still got what you've got if that makes sense.

But i would be looking into what serious harm has to say if i was training fighters at the top level which they probably do anyway. Seems to be the more compact(they mostly have the same areas thats solid) a fighters is they are more able to take shots...might be something in that...certain areas needing to be built and solid to help as opposed to a general good physique.

The thing is at carls level of bodyfat you need to have some serious muscle mass not to look a little bit skinny and weak, we know he's not but even so it still does appear that way. Groves would look the same as carl if he dropped to that level of bodyfat. I'm not overweight by the way before you say it

Again this has nothing to do with actual performance in the ring jut purely from a visual standpoint.

What is carls body fat around compared to george's...anyone know?? I would imagine that most fighters...are in the same ball park??. Wonder if it was as low as khans at 3% lol.

Also anyone know what their fight night weights were...why dont we get these things on sky...wouldn't be that difficult for them to find out.
