Sounds like another one of those, mention a 'big name', get a bit of promotion in the news sort of things...

Its the same old tune loads forever writing up comers off (unless their from the US) but like you said where was Ward? Critics forget and jump at the lure of the power of criticism.

He'd KO Groves, I'm quite sure about that. DeGale could maybe should have had Grovesy out of there, and DeGale is possibly an even lighter hitter than Ward. Ward would dominate him, he's accurate, and therefore he'd stop him regardless of whether he's a monster hitter.

Groves needs to aim for the Stieglitz type fighters.

I didn't really mean it about Ward though. I do rate Andre Ward as a very good talent but I just meant it in general. Groves clearly has ability. His coordination isn't perfect but he's only what 23? Definitely has the potential to be up there.

I just don't see what Groves has got going for him really. Legging it against DeGale, okay he got away with it and got the decision somehow even though the last round scoring was way off, but that routine is simply not going to work against people that are not stupid. DeGale was still the better operator in my eyes even though he ballsed it right up for long periods.

Aye? I don't quiet get your point and B he's only fought about 13 fights and beat Degale in his last fight who apart from over here was no huge deal.

What level did you have Degale at?

Well you call it legging it i call it boxing on the outside and countering but we all see and appreciate things differently. Nobody really saw that game plan of Groves coming did they? as his normal style is different, Groves showed he can fight to a game plan just as Froch whose at the top of the ladder did, which shows maturity, i think he`ll do good, if not i wont verbally deck him for trying. Plus if he chose to go for weaker champs he probably get a bashing from critics right???

I just don't think theres any reason for Groves to be fighting the best at 168. Some guys like Cleverly are ready to face the best in their weight class, Groves is not at that stage. There would be nothing wrong with cherrypicking a Stieglitz who is mediocre. It's not about cherrypicking indefinitely, but recognizing who is where in their development. It's not about number of fights, or what title they hold, its based on what we see and what we saw against DeGale didn't suggest he's ready. He was the only one hurt in that fight and most of his work did absolutely nothing. As far as I'm concerned he took advantage of dodgy scoring in the last round and yes he outsmarted DeGale with his tactics and caught him on the hop, but I still believe if people weren't hating on DeGale they'd see the flaws in that showing and the scoring. He didn't punch with any authority, again looked weak physically when under pressure and again was hurt.

LOL. If it was anyone else you'd call that boxing to a game plan or fighting on the outside :yep Since you're a Ward fan I assume you respect the win, regardless of how it is achieved? Fighter of the year, not fight of the year?

I always read your posts and I respect your opinion and your analysis. You have your favourites though. Groves definitely has a lot going for him.

18 months is basically two years, he's ****ing solid for stating this.

He should of stated, that he wants Andre Ward in his next 4 fights.

Okay, so if you really truely believe that first statement, who has recently had a performance like Groves that I've praised? Boxing off the backfoot but not punching with authority and lacking substance. Thats just what I saw, I didn't see a masterclass, I saw a guy that caught DeGale out early, but increasingly looked poor under pressure. And again, I never saw much quality in his work. Once DeGale got going and understood what he had to do Groves was not impressive at all, and against top class fighters they're going to be on him from the first bell and so would DeFail in a rematch. I don't even think Groves won.

Ward has never had a performance as inconclusive as that, that comparison isn't even worth going into. You may not like the holding or some of the questionable tactics or his style but what you can't deny is Ward dominates fights and shuts down his opponent.
