i credit him for sticking to his game plan against degale but i still dont think he will go all the way. if he does it will be because he is with a top promoter now, i think the degale win papers over the cracks a bit. he has got decent ability but he is too flimsy at times and when he gets caught he is all over the place. i still rate degale ahead of him and i would back degale to go further in his career!
yeah groves pretty much sucks but degale cant do **** unless his opponent is right infront of him and more poeple will expose him by just being on the back foot groves did it and he looked like an idiot the only other time he fought off the back foot and looked pretty vulnerable in his previous 3 fights but degale was just hyped based on his olympic medal and is only talked about cuz everyone hates him and he slaps like a *****, worse that calzaghe, who was a slapper but a great slapper who could fight like hell
British & Commonwealth champion in just 13 fights and at the age of 23. Solid amateur background with 2 ABA titles - he's a talented and exciting prospect IMO. Yes he has flaws but if you've ever listened to what he and Booth have to say, they both know George has flaws and his team are not filling his head with ****. If he continues to work on his flaws (everyone was banging on about how bad he was defensively in the Anderson fight, yet he looked much more tidier and tighter in that aspect in the Degale fight) then I think he can go far.
that was more to do with the fact that against degale it was a defensive saftey first approach where he just did enough to hit deagle and engage degale as little as possible, plus degale cant cut off the ring or set up his punches to save his life, he just throws wild but weirdly powerful slaps when he has a guy infront of him plus uses his head and is pretty dirty at times i was however impressed with groves body attack in the last 2 or 3 rounds of the fight, and degale had no answer to it i think that proved how groves is better than degale in terms of he can adapt his style to an opponents flaws, whereas degale just gets his ass licked by his trainer
I'm not entirely blown away by his skills/talents. But it's too early to dismiss his potential. He may turn out to be one of those guys who, despite not doing anything spectacular in the ring, does what he has to do to get results. Time will tell. (I think DeGale beats him in a rematch)
just come back from holiday and heard ****** is promoting Groves , whats happened there, whats the story? Is Booth still training him and everything else?
yeah still managed, trained by booth and will have haye in camp with him and probably in the corner but 3 year promotional deal with ******
De Gale should have done a lot better in that fight.Im not taking anything away from Groves and backed him to win(just knew De gale would be like that). But I tend to agree that De Gale will go further in the long run. That fight is probably the best Groves has to offer. We will see.
Good stuff for Groves hopefully the rematch with Degale can be later on in the future, maybe for world titles if they get that far, alot of good boxers in that division.
Your point? Many fighters who wern't exactly monster punchers have done big things in the sport. Groves isn't exactly feather fisted, he has decent pop.
