Fair play to Groves - he wants to fight the best (Froch wasn't the easiest route, it was the quickest route to a world title) and then he's going out looking to spar with the best in order to make him the best fighter he can be (Dirrell, Kessler and GGG).

Does he have a 'glass jaw' ? Does he ****. Listen, he's been down twice in his career. Once as a 21 year old against Kenny Anderson - who can punch - in which he got right back up and stopped him not long after. Then he got hit with an absolute pearler of a right hand from a seasoned world class fighter in Carl Froch, who himself has said it's the best punch he's ever thrown.

The fact he wants to spar with the best fighters, wants to fight the best fighters and has jumped at the opportunity to fight for the euro strap which is a final eliminator after such a short time after Froch tells you all you need to know about the guy. He wants to test himself and carve out a solid career, not fanny about padding out a record.

 

Agree he wants to have a top career, and he wants big fights, good sparring e.g. The thing to remember in 1st fight v Froch he crumbled after 2 rounds of Froch hitting him, and was turning his back on Froch as his body is not as tough as elite fighters. After losing 2 world titles ack to back he should not be getting an eliminator straight away for a world title, especially v a guy who is far from world class (especially when u consider George has never beat a world class opponent in his career). He made the huge dough for getting battered twice of Froch, now he is going down the easiest route in Bika, as he knows he cant beat a top fighter at present.

 

Interesting to see GG back in action, got big time overrated in the first fight with carl. Lets see what he is made of, personally he will fall short. not got it mentally

Fair opinion but I disagree, in total he's gone what 15 rounds with Froch, won the majority. The first fight was stopped unjustly in my opinion hence the rematch. Again in the rematch I had Groves up, but Froch hit him with an absolute belter of a right hand. Credit where it's due to Carl Froch, he got the job done - but take nothing away from Groves I think he's a world class fighter and is someone who has a big future ahead of him.

He's gone with Sauerland who have been able to get him a fight against the European champ who carries a good ranking, whether he should or shouldn't be getting final eliminators on the back of 2 losses to Froch is boxing politics for you, fact is Groves won't give a toss he wants to be a world champion and in his mind his promoters have done a great job getting him in this position.

What other options are there for him than Bika? I've heard a good few times now that Abraham doesn't fancy it, Froch holds versions of the WBA + IBF and clearly he's not going to get another crack at him and then, Andre Ward as we all know is having contract disputes... Bika is also a fight that can be made through his promoter so it's the most clear and sensible option.

 

You had him up in the second fight....this is where boxing amazes me as i had carl up 4-2. GG was a different fighter to the first fight

Im a Groves fan and think he will be world champ he is a grafter and will fight anyone but at the end of the day got beat twice off a 36 year elite (arguably) fighter....twice. After the 2nd fight it is clear that Froch would have won the first (and yes Froch can be a dickhead) winning a majority of the rounds means **** all when you get smashed to bits like that... He lost. And yes we know Frochs faults and technical inadiquasies though thy do work for him..... i was there and could see from the start Froch had his no. And was looking for and opening. That being said Groves is only just strarting his career. Who knows in ten years time we may all agree prime for prime groves beats Froch but we dont know when Groves prime is or has he had it..... Time will tell.

 

The fight went past 6 rounds how did you have it 4-2? But yeah I had Groves up 4 rounds to 3... thought he was winning the 8th as well until he took a nap.

Scored it the same when watching it in the stadium then also when I watched the fight back... the people I was with were split, some had Froch up like yourself some had Groves up.

Jim Watt's commentary and scoring was hilarious when I watched it back, blinkered! Sky had Froch ahead, HBO had Groves ahead.

Not looking to gloss over his faults, as long as he's looking to learn from it that's all he can ask of himself and also what his team can ask from him. Going over and sparring with GGG is a good start.

Jim watt commentary was equally bad on the first fight.

IMO GG is a good fighter but has massive question marks over him and no rushing into another title fight is a good idea

Froch was second from knocking him out in first fight, no other reason for a boxer to drop his hands under a barrage and turn his back. In second fight, I like most people around me in stadium including GG fans had Froch up, I had him 2 up. Was controlling dentre of ring, pace of fight. George could beat Bika at range, but if he gets macho up close early Bika will grind him down and beat him as hes a dirty fighter
