I thought the reason he rejected the 1million was to get the 25% from the IBF, which is the standard for title fights, is it? Who decided it should be reduced to 15%? Funny how quickly public perception can change, and how fickle sports fans are.
Oh right I'm not sure how these things work but I thought thats why Groves didn't take the million cos he thought he would get 25% which would have been 1.5 or something. Anyway I just hope the rematch happens and it doesn't falter over money issues
All in all, it does actually look better for Groves that the IBF called for an immediate rematch. When this fight does get made - which it will - Groves was already in Froch's head in the 1st fight. After then going out and doing what he said he would do... and having it taken away from him by Foster... he'll have his rematch with the ammunition that he put Froch on his arse, dominated the fight and the ending was bollocks because even the IBF have called for the rematch.
you know what thought did fuc ked a woman and found out it was a man :yep and to reply to the second bit , if it does not happen for that reason it falls on georges shoulders
But he didn't have it taken away though did he? If he was so good that night, why didn't he close the show in domineering fashion instead of flailing around in the last couple of rounds before the ref jumped in? People talk like Groves was dominating all the way up to the stoppage. That is of course bull****! He may have survived but he was under pressure and taking big shots when the ref jumped in. It's not like Groves was running rings around Froch. Yes he did that for about 6 rounds, but Froch was coming back. It's a 12 round fight, and if you cant stop your opponent within 12, then be prepared to go the distance and the stronger man down the stretch always has a chance to turn it around. Yes bad stoppage, but Groves needs to shoulder some of the blame for losing his defence and game plan and being dragged in to Froch's fight. The rematch is no foregone conclusion either. If Froch still durable enough to get through early rounds, then he's in with a shot himself of winning the fight. Don't be surprised if Groves doesn't and cannot finish it within 6 or 7 rounds, that Froch doesn't get back in to the fight and take over stopping or at least dropping Groves and eeking out a decision
What was taken way from him?? TAKEN AWAY? he blew it. Threw the kitchen sink at him and couldn't get the job done. Was almost out on his feet, and got stopped probably 20 or 30 seconds early. If anyone had it taken away, it was the Grandstand finish for Froch.
All about opinions, I felt Groves was winning the fight comfortably.. had Froch hurt numerous times throughout the fight. The one time Froch had any measure of success, Foster stopped the fight. How can you stop the fight when the man has his hands up, is still throwing punches, hasn't gone down, is still moving etc. It wasn't as if his hands were down and he was getting "Bute'd" . Rematch must happen to clear it all up, unfinished business written all over it.
I do have to wonder how the IBF have worked out the rankings. Groves was their mandatory before the last fight against Froch, and the ending of that fight was controversial and unsatisfying enough that nobody can say Froch proved himself the better fighter, and the IBF itself has admitted that they do not believe the stoppage was justified and that Groves was robbed of the opportunity to prove whether he could hold on for the win. So, given this, how has Groves dropped from #1 ranked IBF fighter and mandatory challenger to #6 without there being anyone ranked #2 and with no other fights occurring between #3 Gonzales, #4 Vlasov or #5 DeGale, and the IBF itself decreeing the their champion has to fight Groves within the 90 day period after January 24th/25th or else lose his title. On the face of it, the IBF has named Groves mandatory challenger yet at the same time they have also somehow dropped him to 6th place in their rankings. It doesn't make sense.
