Groves was never the IBF number 1 challenger. He was ranked 6th before the Froch fight and was ranked 6th afterwards. How Groves got a Mandatory shot with higher ranked fighters above him is a mystery but then we all know the sanctioning bodies are a joke and seem to do what they like. Fact is Groves doesn't have many options other than to accept the 15% or whatever Froch's team are willing to offer. There isn't another opponent he could face that would make him as much money as Froch who is the cash cow of the 168lb division. So it's either fight Froch for a purse more than double he has made previously or possibly get paid a lot less in a vacant title shot if Froch relinquishes the title.
Just looked it up, and your right. The highest he's been ranked in 2013 was 4th in September and October. The question I have now is, what the bloody hell are the IBF playing at where they haven't ranked anyone 1st or 2nd since Stevenson was #1 back in February 2013?
Thing is, there is also a possibility the ending rejuvenated Froch and have him more confidence as opposed the first 6/7 rounds of the fight where he was being done up. I wouldn't be surprised at a late stoppage for Froch or. UD for Groves if he keeps his cool and doesn't get too ****y taking unnecessary shots As for a groves KO, yes he put Froch on his ass but the guy recouped and was being hit all night long after that and didn't go down again which stands testimony to his chin
Froch wasn't steered carefully towards one of the lesser sanctioning bodies belts. The man fought EVERYBODY, and more often than not away from home. He earnt the belts the hard way. Groves is the young upstart who dropped Froch in the 1st and then gave him a fight for 6 rounds before shooting his bolt trying to prove how much of a man he is. He isn't the mandatory, and shouldn't have been the mandatory in the first fight. Froch is the cash cow at 168, if and when Groves beats him, then he can call the shots, until then he should STFU, take what he's offered and do what he said he would do to Froch in the rematch. IMO Georgie is having doubts about his prediction, and is trying to cash in by trying to get a better offer, in case he comes up short again.
In my opinion Groves was trying to make the most money he could out of it since the IBF announced that Froch had to fight him or else lose to title, making him a mandatory. Petitioning the sanctioning body to recieve the percentage due to a mandatory is what any fighter would do in the circumstances. Losing out of a bigger payday on a technicality as he is - purely, it seems, because the IBF refuse to actually anounce who they rank as #1 or #2 Super Middleweight and haven't put anyone in those spots for a year - is a bit of a farce. If the IBF had someone who they rate #1 or #2 in the division then there would be no case whatsoever that they should change the purse from 85/15 to 75/25 but because they dont, because there is that void, Groves was perfectly within his rights, and perfectly correct, to question it and petition for it to be changed. Trying to get a bigger payday is not indicative of trying to get out of the fight. Personally, I dont think it'll happen because I dont think Froch is interested. He made such a big deal over the past few months of wanting to move on, about not being able to get motivated over a second Groves fight, that I just dont think his hearts in it. Oh, no doubt his fans would bring up the offer to Groves prior to the IBF's ruling, but we dont know what the offer was and what stipulations came with it so we cant say whether it was a fair offer or not, and if Froch had been committed to a rematch he wouldn't have left it until the final moment prior to the IBF announcing its ruling on the rematch to make it known that there had been an offer from Hearns. I also dont think Groves is that bothered about Froch. I think he'd like to beat him and avenge the loss, and I think he has the ability to do it, but in terms of his priorities I think he ranks being a world champion above beating Froch by quite a large margine and wont care if he get his shot at being the IBF champion through a Froch rematch or some other fight. Frankly, I will be surprised if this goes any further than negotiations.
you know what, you have a serious point there my man. it is a bit strange. but Groves has done the right thing in not accepting the 15%, because that's complete Bull****. the reason to why the rematch is so big, is down to George. the first fight had good attention, but no where near to what it has now. and that's down to George really putting it on Froch for six clear rounds. yes, Carl came back into it, but that stoppage was unfair. most people agree with that. the rematch would do big numbers on PPV with not that many people complaining like with the first fight. plus, it would be in a huge stadium. the least they can do for George is give him no less than 25% considering what he brings to the table. anything else is short changing the guy. and to those STILL saying the issue is money... it's not! George has said he's happy with the money side, just not the contract from Hearn. how many times do you need to be told?
Froch has done too much in his career for him to give George a straight split. Groves hasn't earned that IMO. but 60-40 sounds good to me. :think
do you still believe Andrade was stiffed in that first fight? everything was above board. no corruption went down. jeez. :-(
:huh i thought Groves was the legit number 1 mandatory for the IBF? where did you get it from that he was only sixth in their rankings? that's news to me if he was.
Is this the real gilfroid who writes all those terrible pointless articles. From reading your articles i get the impression you dislike boxing as all u do is slag every fighter off and the sport in general. You are to the boxing world what hitler is to racial harmony and equality
