George Groves' progression so far...?

firstly I say DeGale stops Groves.

there was a slight improvement in Groves last night, but he still carries that left hand too low and ships a few right hands and I don't think he has that good a chin, he has the heart though.

DeGale is immensely talented, but he is asking to get pushed along far too quick.

 

groves has beat degale a few times in amatuers.

i think that degale is looking good vs poor opponents.
HE aint as slick as he looks.

DeGale has hardly moved 'a lot' quicker up until his most recent fight. Prior to that there was nothing between them. Infact, there isn't a lot between Smith and Anderson anyway.

 

Has Groves improved in the last 2 years?

He is a talent but has lots of bad habits, perhaps getting beat by DeGale would be the wake-up call he needs.

He needs to stop trying to be Haye's little adopted ginger brother & do things his own way, then he'll be much more effective.

 

The question has nothing to do with DeGale. He is commonwealth champion and British mando after 11 fights thats impressive.

 

Except it looks likely that in his 12th pro fight he's gonna get taken apart by his main rival..

 

If Degale didnt exist would Groves be our best/most hyped prospect?

 

No, Frankie Gavin would be and should be. Gavin looks better than Degale to me.

 

Groves looked much better last night, more disciplined. I think he is showing improvement in each fight. I'd slightly favour Degale to beat him but I think the gap between them has tightened. I hope so because I'd prefer to see the Ginger Saint win.

 

I agree but you can imagine the hype he would get on his own if Degale didnt exist.

I think his problem at the moment is trying to keep up with Degale. Getting titles as soon as possible moving through the levels as quickly as he can rather than at the pace he should be. If he fights Degale and loses i think that would be the best thing for him.

I think Groves is not the type of fighter that should be moved asap. I think a few defences of the commonwealth a British title and then focusing on winning it outright would do him the world of good.

 

I think his main problem is being trained by Booth. He needs a proper trainer who will tighten up his defence and not simply have him try and do a mini David Haye impression. Haye does lots of things wrong, but it works for him due to his incredible hand speed for the weight and his power.

Groves is not super fast for a Super Middle and he is not an explosive puncher like Haye, and yet he is being moulded to fight with the hands down, relying on reflexes style of Haye and not working off a good jab and a more traditional stance.

We have a gauge in the mould of degale to measure him by now. We will be able to say better once they've fought each other.
