Wiking Event GmbH, manager of Eddy Gutknecht, informed Fightnews.com that Eddy’s condition is stable and they hope he can return to Germany soon. George Groves has launched a fundraising appeal on behalf of German boxer Eduard Gutknecht, who remains in a coma following the pair's fight earlier this month . Gutknecht was badly beaten by Groves in the WBA International Super-Middleweight contest which he lost via a unanimous points decision at Wembley Arena and collapsed in the dressing room following the fight. The 34-year-old was then rushed into the back of an ambulance on a stretcher and remains in a coma after he underwent surgery. And Groves took to Twitter on Wednesday morning to reveal that he hoping to raise funds for his stricken colleague, after setting up a JustGiving campaign for the German. https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/foreduard I've added what I can and thought others on this forum would as well, as fans of this sometimes brutal sport.
Well done,George! I guess the Russian's career is over and he will retire for good. All the best to you,Eduard!!!!
I wish the German well. Sad story. I watched the fight and noticed he was blinking a lot! Saw that in McClellan v Benn too. So many tragedies. I am sad for all and wish them and there families well.
I noticed the blinking too, then when I heard of the collapsing I thought of that fight! Wish him a full and speedy recovery, also hope Groves is doing ok also as something like this will have an affect.
I really hate seeing fighters seriously hurt . But its one of the risks every fighter takes when they climb into the ring. God Bless Eddy I hope you make a complete recovery Also everyone please have George Groves in your thoughts too. A serious injury like this affects BOTH fighters Kudos to George for starting the fund for Eddy it was great of him This is why it always makes me mad to see keyboard tough guys call any fighter a bum. No fighter is a bum
