Good solid British fight. Groves should look exceptional in pockets of the fight but Murray will make him work. Murray hurt AA so he mat be able to hurt Groves if he does connect. Not really bothered who wins but I can see a GG victory on points something like 116-112
I can't get excited about this fight, DeGale and Callum Smith are the ones to beat at 168. Groves and Murray have had 6 world title fights between them and lost the lot. Groves looks like a fringe world title contender these days and Murray looks slightly worse, the winner will probably be fed to Callum Smith or maybe get another world title shot and lose again.
Just shows the fine margins between being champion of the world and being wrote off as losers on a boxing forum. Groves as every right to still feel aggrieved by the stoppage in the 1st Froch fight. He would have gone on to win that fight and who knows where he'd have gone with that confidence and belief. I've harped on enough about MM. This is an exciting, domestic do or die fight between two very good fighters. I can't wait.
Obviously a terrible stoppage. But it's far from a given that Groves would have won that fight, there's a good chance Froch would have stopped an exhausted GG in the last few rounds.
I never write anybody off, I just stated a fact, 6 world title fights between them and they have lost the lot. It is a solid enough domestic fight but in my opinion that's all it is, a solid domestic fight. We had one of those "end of the road for the loser" type fights last week with Brian Rose and Macklin, I see it on that sort of level.
I get where you're coming from mate. I just sometimes like them type of fights that are not necessarily for any belts but were both fighters are fully aware of the consequences of losing...it can produce a fantastic fight.
I acknowledge that, there's no saying he'd have won, Froch was a brilliant never say die fighter, but it did have that 'this is my moment' feel to it for Groves.
It's a good match-up indeed. I will be rooting for Murray, Groves has thrown his potential away and it's a nightmare having to listen to him speak. The possibility of post fight victory speech by Groves alone is reason enough to root for MM.
:good I Completely agree, some of the best domestic fights I've seen live haven't even been televised. I do understand what you're saying, I just don't like the way they sell these types of fights to me, I don't pretend to be a boxing expert because I'm not but I have a good idea of what I'm watching. so I'm probably already having some sort of early reaction and getting ready for the hype machine to put me off the fight completely
I can see where you're coming from, I used to think that aswell. But Froch knocking him out in front of 80,000 at Wembley and him losing yet another title fight has changed that a bit. Some boxers just doesn't have that winning aura, and will usually always find a way to lose their most important fights.
Good fight this - looking forward to it! Murray's tough and Groves will have to be on top form - Murray will want to take the fight into later rounds then start putting it on Groves I imagine, but he has to be careful Groves isn't already high and dry before he decides to put the pressure on. Murray holds that high guard, but Groves with that solid jab could pierce through it... plus he loves to whip that right hand in around the guard. I fancy Groves to outbox Murray and take a UD. If Groves can stop him, it's a solid statement. Neither can afford to lose.
Murray is good match up for Groves overall. Relatively stationary, good defence but not to the level which would frustrate Groves and lead to him getting reckless, and also got enough about him in terms of class to earn Groves respect and keep him switched on. Murray has a thicker coat, and the better engine IMO(or at least paces himself better), so the final rounds could be very interesting if he lasts to that point. If Groves drops his level by 10-15%, Murray has the toughness and dynamism to make him pay. Good fight.
