Was just looking at the Ring Magazine's Super Middle rankings.

George Groves is placed ahead of both Andre Dirrell and Arthur Abraham.

I'm as big a fan of Groves as anyone (and certainly one of the few that picked him from the start to beat Degale), but these rankings are just plain wrong.

Yes I know Dirrell has been out for a long time but he still has mixed in a higher class.

Despite all this I started thinking about a Groves vs Abraham fight and how that might go.

Even at this stage of his career I could see Groves outpointing him though obviously it would be a very dangerous fight. Groves goes to the body extremely well and if he could stick to the gameplan that the Dark Lord lays out for him then I could see him getting a decent points win.

I think rightly Groves' people are not wanting to rush him on from Domestic class, but if and when the time comes AA could be a good choice. I would certainly give him a much better chance than I would against Dirrell at this stage.

    What do you reckon?

I agree with you that this would be a winnable fight for Groves and can see him boxing to a decision on the outside against one dimensional Abraham. I thought AA was moving down anyway, or has something changed, not really been paying attention.

I agree it would seem soon to talk about these sort of fights but his ranking is good and sooner or later they will step him up. IMO Arthur would be a winnable fight for him though at this stage also a very dangerous one.

Yeah i agree, they're winnable fights but would just like to see him hold back a year or two so when he does truly step up, he's in a better position to win.

Be interesting to see who he targets after Anderson, should he win. Magee would be a good fight.

I think Magee has been lucky in a way to be in the sort of position he is in, he is not going to give that up for a fight with Groves.

Magee is looking for another big payday which is unlikely to get against Groves.

I could see Abrahams people seeing Groves as a guy with a decent Ranking who could get Arthur some confidence back with a spectacular KO. I really do feel that Groves could pull it off though, but wouldn't want it t happen till the end of the year really. By which time hopefully Groves will have put in a decent performance aginst Anderson and perhaps a decent stay busy fight on an undercard in the states. Saurland could stick it on a Kessler undercard with the winner to get a shot at Kessler.

Magee would make more sense at this stage. Groves will need to fight a disciplined fight against Arthur Abraham which he is capable of doing.

Magee would be a sensible fight but as I said above I can't really see what is in it for Magee or why he would take it.

Judging on how Groves got dropped by Anderson and wobbled by Smith I think Abraham's a big risk. Groves could well do it if he fights a disciplined fight like he did against DeGale, but he's had momentary lapses in his past fights and Abraham has the power to exploit that no matter what stage of the fight your at or how far behind he is on the cards. I'd give him a few more fights before I'd take that risk. If he ever sorts himself out I'd love to see Groves in with Pavlik. Big name, not the greatest boxer and doesn't have the concussive power of Abraham. That'd be the name I'd be aiming for to put Groves on the map.

Abraham KO, far too soon for Groves.

Groves is a good prospect no doubt. But he is hit far too much with the right hand, and Abe hits a lot harder than Kenny Anderson.

AA KO early. If George can keep it at long range, he could box to a decision. But I don't think he is experienced enough to do that for 12 3 minute rounds at this stage

Horrible choice IMO. Pavliks jab and power would, for me anyway, make it a harder fight to win stylistically than AA.

I'm talking about a clean sober Pavlik mind you

Until Groves tightens up his defence you will always be taking a massive risk putting him in with a puncher.

I think for now it's slightly to early against Abraham, he'd have the dimensions to make it a easy night in terms of long punches and being a bigger man but his lack of concentration and questionable chin make it a fight not worth taking for now. See how he goes with Anderson first if he shows better defence then go for it. Groves may be the sorta fighter that needs a risky bout to concentrate. I'd take him to beat the current AA on points but he's always at risk with a chin like his and defence like his..

Abraham should go back to middleweight, some real good fights there too!
