What did you think of the outcome? I was quite surprised to be honest. Do you think Callum Smith will go on to much bigger fights?
In what way was he fortunate? I don't follow either of these fighters so I am unaware. It is an incredibly weak division so Smith might be able to put together a few wins against tin can opponents.
It’s just my opinion but I think groves could have gotten up from the knockdown if it wasn’t for the rabbit punch when groves was down, I’m not saying he would go on too win the fight after that (he might just get knocked right back down again) but we’ll never know
The rabbit punch was a little naughty - although I reckon it's hard to stop punching when a boxer is pouring it on trying to get the finish - but I reckon Groves was a beaten man by then, especially after the body punch. The 'no mas' shake of the head suggested he'd had enough. A 6'3'' SMW weighing God knows what on fight night with a long reach and range is a nightmare opponent for anyone in that division. But Groves was ahead on the cards from working behind the jab and then chose to engage more. Maybe he felt he was losing the fight, or was already hurt and tired and got desperate. Fair play to Smith though, he used his natural advantages well. Still not sold on his boxing skills but it's going to take someone with more power than Groves had tonight or better timing to beat him and it's not a stacked division at present. He might be around for a while, yet...
We saw an old fighter, with miles on the clock wilt under pressure. It happens CEJs stock goes massively down tonight as people will be making direct comparisons between him and Callum Smith, against Groves. Expecting Groves to retire after this, and Callum to go on from here defending those belts atleast 2-3 times
Groves won longer stretches of almost every round. Best case scenario for Groves is shading 2-3 rounds. Most in the RBR had Groves ahead or the fight even. Nobody had Smith "dominating" and winning every round as you're trying to say.
I think he’ll retire too although we could potentially see him fighting Degale in a good cashout fight for both of them
awesome fight, awesome result. 2G falls to hard northerner once again. He should stick to fighting soft southerners. YEYYYY YEEYYY
Confirmation bias much? Only selecting a few posts that agree with your POV? One coming from one of the worst posters on the board and the others being largely neutral. That judge DKSAB. The judge had it even and Groves 4 points up were within reason. I'm just saying that Smith hardly looked great here and was getting outboxed and capitalized on a Groves brain fart in the 7th. He probably wouldn't have been so lucky had Groves continued boxing instead. The fight was competitive but Groves did the better boxing overall. Smith get's his credit, but he's a flawed fighter but who beat a Groves who wasn't operating at his best tonight. To say he was dominant start to finish is completely absurd fanboy nonsense.
