They said he needed a trainer, and that's what we found out in the end. It was clear from round 1 that Eubank Jr didn't know what to do when fighting at range. When he's close up, he's a machine. But at range, it was pathetic. I mean, he doesn't have a jab for starters.

First round, Eubank didn't have a clue. As everyone has been saying, Groves just kept Eubank at range with the jab, the whole fight. What you'd expect Eubank to do was use a high guard and try to get up close, but he didn't. The first 7 rounds, he did the same thing over and over, just standing there...

If he had a trainer, he'd know how to use a high guard to get up close, he'd know how to use a jab to try and gain some control, some momentum. Just doing those two simple things would have made him competitive, because let's get this straight, up close Eubank Jr absolutely demolishes Groves, and we saw very small flashes of that in the fight. There was so little of it though, and he hardly hurt Groves.

Oh, and don't get me started with 'speed'. Eubank Jr moaning and whining about the fact he has better movement, better speed...well we saw who has better speed and movement tonight, and it certainly wasn't him.

Eubank Jr CAN be the real deal. He just has to learn the other stuff with a new and better team around him.

Besides, Snr said Cox was the most dangerous guy in the tournament. Of course Groves was going to beat these less dangerous ones too.

Bull****! Eubank does just as much holding. He does it in every fight. Holds for a couple of seconds, gets in position then gets his shots off or holds with one arm and throws with the other. Groves was just too smart, big, strong and just plain too good for him.

He's too old to learn and be competitive with the best imo, a trainer barely helps him now. It's a weak division at the moment, but it won't stay that way.

    Groves held WAY TOO MUCH.

He should've had points deducted early on to stop it.

The worst part of the fight was Groves' holding. He did fine moving his head to avoid shots. But his grabbing ruined the action.

It would be kind of sad if Groves can't be at his best for the final, but I still like the concept of set schedules. It would be best for boxing if boxers just had to fight every three, possibly four months. In every other sport the competitors are often not at 100%, while boxers get the luxury of a recovery break and a long training camp so almost always are. It would be an interesting dynamic if boxers might be 80% fight night, or might have to give up on a fight and purse. Groves should be fine for June with a separated shoulder, but he might well not be able to have a full training camp.

My "boy?" I think I've seen one Chris Eubank fight before this, which he also lost. (LOL) I was just watching the fight, and GROVES HELD WAY TOO MUCH.

Every time it started to get good, Groves would grab. Like HUNDREDS of times over 12 rounds.

I saw most of Eubank Sr.'s fights. But his kid isn't nearly as good.

Groves had a gameplan and stuck to it, ok it not fancy, it not pretty but sometimes you gotta win ugly, a W on your record beats a L everytime.

Here's hoping Groves shoulder injury is not serious.

If Eubank Jnr could swallow his pride and get with a decent trainer and listen to them, then may be that input on top of his engine and 'warrior' spirit might give him a hope against the better fighters.

Blame Eubank. Groves did what he had to do. Beat Eubank at his own game. Many guys that like to be inside hold a lot (see Hatton). Groves isn't going to just let Eubank grab him, get into position and fire off shots. He obviously going to grab back or hold first (just like Brook vs Porter or Floyd vs Hatton).

Eubank Jr was a lot like Porter against Brook in this fight. He was to blame for the holding because of his reckless, self-smothering, skill-less method of attack.

This thread got many more responses/pages than both Usyk/Breidis and Gassiev/Dorticos despite this being the least skilled fight of the three by a long shot. Just goes to show how dedicated British fight fans are. No wonder they are now the economic giant in the sport.
