MMA's at its peak and it'll continue to grow for a few years but'll eventually stagnate and drop to about the same popularity as modern day boxing, maybe a little more popular, maybe a little less. But boxing isn't gonna propel its way back into the hearts of the general public. Of course there's gonna be special guys that come along, but gone are the days of the Four Kings and the Ali/Frazier stuff. Even if those type of fighters did come round, I doubt they could capture the imaginations of people like they did back then, plus with the whole Internet and PPV/Cable issues, there's always problems with exposure and probably always will be, which is all that matters I guess.

This will end ups as a trilagey and later on down the lines belts will be involved.

I like this match up, same gym growing up groves beat degeal in the am. Degeal goes on to win olmipic gold they hate each other . Makes for a good fight

As i said, this is good for boxing, and it is nice to know that there still is boxers who wants to face everyone to prove themself.. But i just think that you should let your young fighters mature, then you can test them..

I think the main reason it is happening now is that the promoters can see a distance opening up between the two fighters that may never be closed. DeGale will be fighting at P4P level in two years whilst Groves will be at euro level at best.

ughh, maybe commenwealth and british titles mean something to both of them??.

    Its a grudge match,that sells.

Their both good enough to face each other, and who knows, their could be rematches.

dont us boxing fans wait long enough as it is.
we've waited for mayweather-pac, lopez-gamboa, haye-klitschko. its nice to get something to look forward to now, as opposed to waitng years for.

What you've got to remember is boxing isn't always predictable. 'Waiting' until they've had 20 fights and one is world champ and the other a contender is quite likely to just...not happen. See Gamboa/Lopez for a fight on a higher level thats been ruined by greed and that 'waiting' mentality. Sometimes you wait and wait to build a fight and the bubble bursts.

This fight is already massive in the UK, and ultimately, its been ordered for the British title. Thats why its happening, as well as the rivalry. I don't think they're too worried about waiting for a worldwide audience to take interest, when was the last time the whole world tuned into an all Brit affair anyway? The time is right.

this is great and refreshing. this what should be happening, top level prospects keep getting fed tomato cans and by the time they step it up they're screwed and used to fighting patsies. fights like this are what all top level prospects should be doing around their 10th fight, facing another promising young fighter.
