They did have an unbeaten Brit lined up (pretty sure Rob knew who it was) but it's obviously fallen through, which is a massive shame. Still, this guy is a better opponent than Dilks would've been and it's still only Groves' 11th fight so I think this is a pretty good match-up.
Kenny Anderson looked garbage in his last fight on the Quigg card. Didn't see anything that makes me thinks he's better than this guy undefeated or not. He wouldn't be undefeated if he'd fought Karmazin and Bute either.
If Warren makes Smith vs DeGale he really will have stolen a march on Hayemaker and Groves. If DeGale wins he can fight Paul David and his mandatory would be Kenny Anderson vs Tony Quigley winner. That would give him the Lonsdale belt and he doesn't have to fight Groves. With the Smith win he will also take scousers away the top 10 rankings with the WBC, IBF and WBO and top 4 rankings with the EBU.........
Anderson was the opponent, but he withdrew at the 11th hour. Some contractual disagreement. Step forward 'Lights Out'...well...nearly.
yeh and why wouldn't I be. they talk talk talk talk and don't back it up. promise tough fights for haye and groves and look what they give us.
Yes clearly a guy thats taken Lucien Bute rounds is a terrible opponent for a 10 fight novice. What exactly has DeGale done thats better than beating this fake James Toney type? Absolutely nothing, Dilks is pathetic and gave up after a few grazed his head, this guy is easily better. So you at least have to be fair about what other prospects with 10 fights are doing. Not many are bettering this.
I'm not that fussed for Anderson. I've not seen anything of this guy but the fact that he's fought the likes of Bute shows he at least has some form. Dilks was never a realistic option, especially after the way Groves belted the crap out of Adamu. I'm prepared to give Groves a pass, alright we'd have liked to have seen him vs DeGale but at least we are seeing him fight decent guys, rather than just making defences of a meaningless domestic title just for the sake of defending a title. Ten tough rounds against a good opponent >>>>>>>>>>>> Commonwealth defence. It's time the title was binned for good.
He could be fighting proper Afrobums who nobody has heard of like Clev did. That's exactly what Clev was doing at this point, commonwealth title in hand. At least this Ghanaian has names on his record we know, and he's on YouTube, and looks vaguely competent. No great shakes but if Groves blasts him out quick we know he's doing quite well considering his formline, rather than him being a pure bum.
Cleverly wasn't calling everyone out....and he was lined up to face James O Toney but he pulled out a week before.
What's calling everyone out got to do with anything, Rob? He's a fighter, they talk, thats the fight game. You get interviewed and you have to say something interesting. But then its the matchmakers making the fight, not the fighter. Grow up...:nut
Fair enough. When Groves is interviewed after this fight he can say "I wanna fight James DeGale.....but it has to be on a Hayemaker show and his lowest ever payday"
