Looks a touch of class. Can see him being a world champ in future. It will be interesting to see how he fares when facing greater talent but I feel he still has a few gears to move into we havent even seen yet. Hes probably my favourite of our young British talent. Other opinions on him welcome.
He looks much classier than all the others. Jeffries, Saunders etc look average at best. Their game on the world stage will get found out quickly. Groves has moves. He's dynamic, he makes you think. He switches between gears. With Sutherland having passed, Groves probably becomes the new top dog. I feel he might be ever so slightly fleshy and maybe could make middle. Your thoughts?
Yeah is 1 for the future 4 defo, looks like hes coming along nice looks very skilled and throws great shots.
The forum is founded on big statements. What would it be without them? And if Amir Khan can do it.... If he could make middle it would surely make his impressive power even more noticeable. Still it would be nice to see him and DeGale face off in the pros and I think that would probably be at supermiddle. Might be some time before we see that though. I love his style, hes so level headed for a young fighter, takes his time and picks his openings to perfection, feels out his opponent in the opening rounds. Can counter-punch and throw combinations, Im looking forward to seeing his future fights.
His performance made Jeffries look average at best. Great to watch, style seems to be moulded like Haye's.
Disappointed with Jeffries but hopefully he'll learn from that fight what to do next time. Should keep his opponent away using the jab more next time and when it gets close he needs to learn to fight on the inside a bit more, suprised how little he threw the uppercut.
I was impressed by george groves performance, hes a very promising box-puncher with a style thats easy on the eye and made for tv as well as the states but he does tend to pull away a bit backing up with his chin. against a euro/world level puncher he could get caught but then again we dont know what his whiskers are like. as for jeffries i think hes the type of fighter to throw about 40 jabs a round and if he does so he will be very hard to beat especially in sunderland, again not knowing how his chin will stand up yet. he did however fight a pretty indisciplined performance and if he gets too caught up in trying to entertain the sunderland fans then thats turned into a disadvantage strangely. i also dont think he should have left joe gal
i been very impressed by Groves so far, but obliviously becoming a world champion is still very far away
He looks a star. I know he was fighting a poor opponent, but you can just tell sometimes when a fighter has the capability. He looks a bit special, he's so relaxed, incredibly fast, his counterpunching is unusual for a Brit, his punches seem to have real spite, and to top it all off he's sparring class fighters and holding his own according to reports. The only thing which could let him down is toughness like so many fighters. That has yet to be determined. I'm not too down on Gavin or DeGale either. They both have extremely good tools, technically very good, great athletes, its just a matter of punch power for them and the normal questions that every prospect has to answer coming up the ranks. Jeffries and Saunders are okay, never quite saw the same talent in Saunders as some have. I know he's young but he doesn't look immensely talented, and he's fat. They'll do okay I suspect, but I wouldn't say they are better than the less hyped Joe Murray.
thats the first time ive got to see him properly & i was pretty impressed, i agree with others who said he made jeffries performance look a bit average although its still very early days for both...
With all those belts out there I dont think its too big a statement to be honest. We'll just have to see, if he crashes and burns feel free to drag this thread back up, I'll take the stick.
