What are your thoughts on him? He's exciting enough, but I think he's very very flawed His has practically an identical style to David Haye, but he lacks the speed and sheer athleticism and good looks that Haye possesses He loads up a lot and is consistently off balance I think he needs to work on his flaws otherwise somebody is going to take advantage of them
I thought he lost to James DeGale personally, and only won because the fight was closer than expected. I think he will be a contender, might get a title but won't do anything major.
I think he is improving, is good to watch, but leaves himself far too open by loading up, which as you say will be taken advantage of as he steps up unless he fixes it. Overall I think he is coming on well for 16 fights and seems to find a way to win.
That's my impression too. He even talks the same way and everything, its a bit weird. I like watching him but I can see him unravelling if he fights one of the top guys. Anderson showed how even a slow, flat-footed fighter can get to him and even though he's improved since then he still makes a lot of the same mistakes. He would have problems with guys like Bika, Pavlik and Abraham I think.
The thing I find strangest is how both Haye and Groves have almost identical behaviours and mannerisms to Adam Booth. Anyone else noticed that? It's especially noticeable with Groves. This content is protected
I like groves. He does seem to improve with each fight but does as mentioned have a few obvious flaws. I picked him to beat Degale the first time and I'm pretty sure he'd make easier work of it in a rematch.
I have noticed this before. They all sort of widen their eyes and overly inhale when saying certain words. If Aydin and Andy Lee start doing weird **** it is definitely something weird going on with Booth in that gym.
I like Groves and think he has made fantastic progress for such a short amount of fights. Consider that he has beaten Adamu, who some felt looked unlucky to Froch, undefeated Olympic gold medallist Degale, who was British champ and later became European champ and WBC Silver champ, he beat undefeated Anderson who became British champ, he beat G Johnson also now. Good prospect for such a short amount of fights. Going places
There are obvious similarites but I think George has a more well rounded arsenal, his left hand is more cultured & technically correct. George doesnt have the explosive speed of Haye, but he doesnt rely on a single shot, the straight right hand as much. Though George is more orthodox than Haye he loves a tear up & loses form when the red mist decends. His chin isnt great & he is vunerable in exchanges, looks like he cuts easily as well which might cost him in important fights. vs DeGale he was disciplined for 12 rounds & like Haye, I think he can put in a decent defensive performance vs good opponents but George wont win many fans in the process. It will be interesting to see if/how he improves as a fighter whilst training with Booth. Haye never really changed his style & always did his own thing when he felt like it, George seems a bit more willing to learn & improve.
i like groves although i also thought he lost to james degale , but i like his style and mannerism , seems a good pro , might get slated here but i would rate him a top 5 finisher ,
I thought Groves won a close decision over DeGale. It was Groves fantastic footwork that won the fight for him. He knew not to stay in range with DeGale and put in a very good win, though I rate DeGale and Groves very highly for putting it on the line so early in their careers against each other
