This was the last fight I watched last night. It was hyped up quite a bit w/ sort of those "Look backs" they did in the 80s and 90s, showing both fighters' training.

At the start of the 1st round it seemed to be a promising fight. Both were slugging hard. Clinches were few, but they got in one, and the ref had a helluva time trying to pry them apart. As soon as he did, WHAM! The Orchid Man threw a right hand. Lewis went down, and there was the end to all the hype.

Ted Kid Lewis said he was foul in this fight as Carpentier hit on the break.

No foul in this fight. The rules at that time (at least in England) were that "Break" meant that you had to stop holding, but you could continue to hit when your hands was free. You were NOT called to take a step back, as you are today.

Another fight with a distinct size differential. Carpentier is on the big end this time. In fairness to Carpentier, he is on film fighting much bigger men and beating them, although Dempsey proved a bridge too far, as the saying goes.
