My thoughts here: http://www.cagepotato.com/with-gsps-future-in-question-jon-jones-has-inherited-the-ufc-throne/
Do you tempt fate, come back and leave a hero OR do you sacrifice a bit of pride and accept your day in the sun has passed you by? Lennox Lewis can tell you allow about it. They still talk about what he did! Froch is arguably in a similar position, RJJ was, GSP is. It's a fine line. It's very easy to become RJJ, even BJJ. You lose a step, never quite regain the glory and start collecting losses like they are going out of fashion. All the while claiming you are so close to former glory but then your name is Evander Holyfield!
Personally I think it's more inspiring for a dominant athlete to keep facing new and tougher challenges by continuing to compete past their prime. That's how life works, you don't attain perfection then commit suicide. I don't see never tasting defeat as the pinnacle of achievement. Of course there's a difference between tougher challenges and impossible ones, that's the balance which must be struck. Like Jackie Chan once said about the types of stories he likes to tell, "Life isn't about winning EVERY battle, it's about winning the ones that count".
Dominant or not, brain damage is real. Most of the boxing greats ended up penniless and suffering the effects of dementia. Many have depression they never speak about. The audience enjoys the show but never pays the price.
The really vast majority of Quebeckers wants him to retire. He was one of the best and change his sport, helped it to become more mainstream, more presentable with his professionnal - non childish - attitude. St-Pierre always insist he was a mixed martial artist, meaning that he could perform in different discipline. He has been for years the best overall. He should just retire.
The brain rattling part is ******ed. I'm sure his head is just fine, hendricks isn't exactly mike tyson for fuk sakes and GSP didn't get hit with too many hard punches anyway. Yea he was almost KO'd but hendricks missed most of his power punches. GSPs face made things look much worse, all those little scratches that were bleeding. Rumor has it Hendricks cut little slices in his gloves, so when he hit or grazed GSP, it would open some scratches up on GSPs face.
