Florian is good, but not great. His best wins are over Roger Huerta and Joe Stevenson both of whom are fairly limited fighters. Stevenson has been relegated to Ultimate Fight Nights now. If Penn shows up 100% in condition and is focused I think he smashes Florian. Everything that Florian does well, Penn does better.
I agree with you but Florian does have better kick than Penn. And better stamina. But Penn is on other level for the others assetts.
Penn has been SO UNDERRATED since his fight with St Pierre. NOBODY would've picked Florian over him before that fight. What would St Pierre do to Florian if they fought??? What does St Pierre do to EVERYONE he fights? lol Truth: BJ Penn is too small for WW, and way too small to fight St Pierre at WW! If Uriah Faber comes up and faces Penn at LW he gets destroyed. Because he's too small, not because he's not an elite fighter.
The same thing happens with mma fights as with boxing fights. As soon as it's annoucned, the underdog gets tons of support and people go on an on about how he'll win. Once it gets closer to fight time though and the fight starts to seem more real, they see that the favorite is a favorite for a very very good reason and move back to picking them. Of course GSP knows that Penn should beat Florian 99/100. He's just stirring the pot for another beatdown with Penn down the road.
yea i expect penn to be motivated in this fight and smashed florian into pieces. I really want to see bj penn fight and choke diego sanchez out next
If Diego pushes the pace and constantly goes for take downs he would do better against Penn. If he fights penn conservatively and tries to box, he loses easily
Sanchez striking has improved dramatically over his last few fights. You can tell in his last fight against guida that his striking may be as good as his wrestling. I would expect penn to take this fight to the ground and choke diego out or maybe try to break his arm into pieces.
