Gerald McClellan is the kind of fighter that Wilder SHOULD HAVE been

As strange as this sounds, considering the state that McClellan is in right now. In terms of boxing style goes though I think Wilder could have adopted McClellan's style. Tall, lanky, explosive, granite chin, dynamite right hand, aggressive, and a bloodthirsty killer in the ring who took pleasure KOing everyone in his path. That's the kind of fighter that people perceived Wilder as but the problem is his skills is just so limited that he has nothing else going for him other than power. I only WISH that he was actually taught the fundamentals from the start. With McClellan, despite his overly offensive go for the KO mindset, he at least had good boxing ability when he used it, hard jab, lethal body puncher, put punches together well, and had great balance.

One can imagine if Wilder fought in the style similar to Gerald McClellan, Junior Jones, Bob Foster, Sandy Saddler, or even Tommy Hearns. I think he would have much more success IMO.

Oh. I thought you meant he should've gotten battered into a coma. I was like "whoa, dude...harsh".

He very well could have been in a coma if the fight lasted another 4 rounds.

Had he been handled better and taken more seriously earlier on in his career and given fights to test him and make him learn new skills instead of relying on his power, he indeed would of likely become a better fighter. There is no denying he has a load of raw talent.

But instead he was given easy fights, cherry picked fighter, after cherry picked fighter to get him a title shot and then to keep his title. It's no wonder he fell in love with his power and his right hand because that's all he needed against the guys he fought. When he did finally step in with a proven, prime top fighter he got battered.

It does feel like his talent was wasted, love him or hate him, he could of been something special with the right people around him. But it's too late now, at least he was fortunate enough to make a ton of money, in that regard he over achieved.

I think people underestimate Wilders lack of coordination and overestimate his athleticism.

I think while he would obviously benefit from adding skills hes perilously neglected, his coordination is always going to hold him back from havibg a solid style imo.

DW started boxing far too late. The fact he made it this far you have to give that guy credit.

It's a shame that people have overestimated Deontay's abilities just because of his one punch power. Was only a matter of time when those technical deficiencies start to be his downfall and his power wont bail him out.
Would have loved to have seen a HW version of Gerald McClellan.

McClellan was usually much bigger as his opponents (size/weight advantage), wasn't a very good boxer but a huge puncher (very Wilder like), was a lot more active in the ring, but didn't carry his power late (unlike Wilder).

McClellan probably wouldn't have liked the current WBC drugtesting, unlike Wilder.

Deontay Wilder will have to be in a lower weight to have the same power as G-Man P4P

So far Deontay Wilder is the hardest P4P Heavyweight Champion in boxing history, by default the hardest puncher of all time (due to size)

On this list you see G ratio at 1.14 ratio, meaning Wilder has to be hydrating up to 175 (fighting at 168), at that weight Deontay Wilder power/size will allow him to be as effective as G-Man vs the higher P4P caliber boxers. (In general middleweights are better P4P than heavyweights). Chris Byrd made a living out of outboxing heavyweights, he got hurt bad when he moved down, so that shows you its not just "draining"

Carlos Zarate possibly the best Puncher P4P
    (
or Naoya Inoue if you want to consider him a 1 punch KO Artist)

That is a Kronk style which is what Tyson Fury aided by Sugar Hill Steward and Andy Lee did to Wilder. As an amateur Wilder’s trainer Mark Breland a New Yorker was a Kronk fighter arguably the greatest amateur ever.
