The dynamic and scintillating Gerald McClellan versus the moribund, grim James Jeffries. Head to head with Mitch Halpern as ref in a 20 foot ring with 8 oz gloves. 15 rounds.

McClellan was taller, longer reach, hit harder, was faster and had better boxing skills.

Jeffries could fix a radiator, take a whippin' from smaller guys and complained about the smell of colored fighters as an excuse not to face them.

    Who you got?

This might be more competitive than first glance indicates.McClellan probably entered the ring at over 170lbs they are the same height, McClellan has a negligible half an inch reach advantage .
You would expect McClellan to be quicker, with Jeffries being able to absorb the punches better.
Given the fact that 5'9" Sharkey at 185lbs gave Jeffries hell in 2 fights.and given that Sharkey was as subtle and crude as a cement mixer as regards skill,I think McClellan might have some success in the early going but would expect Jeffries to wear him down over the long route. This thread was probably designed as a provocative joke ,but there are some grounds for thinking the match might be an entertaining scrap for some rounds.

WTF are u talking about ?!??
McClellan was not taller. Jeffries was 1,87 m tall and McClellan was 1.83 m tall.
McLellan weighed 75 kg, while Jeffries weighed 102 kg (225 pounds).

Sure, the G Man probably had better skills, but I doubt he could hit harder.

If Fitzsimmons couldn't beat Jeffries in two tries, what would McClellan do? He wasn't even bigger than Fitzsimmons.

Jeffries was examined by Dr. D.A. Sargent of Harvard University in December of 1903 and was recorded to be precisely six feet tall.

Jeffries weight in his major defences

    Fitz 1 206lbs
    Fitz2.219lbs
    Corbett1.218lbs
    Corbett2.210lbs
    Sharkey2.210lbs
    Ruhlin2.218lbs

ie Not 6feet one and ahalf, but six feet even , and not 225lbs but 219 being his heaviest in a major contest.Giving us an average weight for those fights of 213lbs,ie.12 lbs lower than stated.

Presumably McClellan would not be 37 or 39 years old ,nor would he be coming out of a two years retirement with damaged hands.

Actually, I'm pretty sure McClellan was bigger than Fitz. He's normally 180ish in ring.

Fitz was likely over 170 lbs in both Jeffries fights, even if he's bigger the difference isn't important here.

Yeah and he wouldn't be as good as this 37/39 years old man. This version of Fitzsimmons was better than anything we've seen from Gerald.

Better than you've seen of Bob that's for sure, because you've seen neither of those fights!

Gerald was a search and destroy fighter,, he'll hit Jeff quite a bit and then be ground down and stopped
