Before super middleweight there was light heavyweight, which McClellan would have been back in the day. But, he's not fighting the best version of Moore. He fights the December of 1958 version that Durelle fought. Moore was dropped 3 times in the first round and once in the 5th round. Could McClellan keep him down?
There is probably nothing Gerald McCellan could do to beat Archie Moore if he wants to win you’re overestimating “Gman” and if you were his manager you’d be fired afterwards.
But this would be 44 year old Moore who was days away from his 45th birthday. I would expect a 10-15 year younger Moore to eat his cereal out of McClellan's skull
Which might be the mindset of his actual management before Archie Moore shows the world the emperor has no clothes. Don’t underestimate someone that smart grey or not. Not to exaggerate too much but I think Archie could toy with him for 12 if he felt petty.
I’ll say it like this: if it came down to JUST power then Gerald McClellan had enough to hurt anyone at that weight. But as valuable as that may be, it took more than JUST power to beat the Mongoose.
G man dangerous as hell but Moore is no ones fool. I see him surviving Mcs worse and stopping him in the latter rounds.
