GMan never beat a good technical or slick fighter. Still, he was extremely dangerous. But kind of basic. James Toney would have ate him up in my opinion.
G-Man wasn't even a SMW, let alone a LHW. That's a very unfair ask of him to fight one of the 3 sturdiest LHW of the 21st century.
He was a huge MW by his own admittance. It was a rough weight cut for him. Look how much bigger he was than Jackson.
He as a super middle before he even moved up.They just kept him at the weight artificially. The Benn fight was at SMW.
Finally a fight where I can pick Toney without hesitation. In my opinion McClellan's loaded-up overhand rights would have been a dream come true for a slick operator like Toney.
Agree. AB is a naturally bigger man and a much better boxer as well. He would have run over like McClellan like a freight train.
It s not even fair to put McClellan in these type of match ups as his career ended at 27 in his prime. No brain injury and he bests Benn, and outside of Roy it s hard to see him lose for a while. However him falling in love with his power and sacking Steward would have caught up to him sooner or later.
Always felt Toney would absolutely toy with McClellan, I like Gerald but he was nothing special , if his career didn't end the way it did I doubt anybody would be talking about him the way they do now
I don't know for sure which is why I expressed the sentiment as a doubt, GM's best win was 33 year old considerably smaller Julian Jackson, at middleweight, and here we are in a thread discussing GM against beterbiev who's a big, murderous LHW with crushing power and underrated skills - I HIGHLY doubt he could have strung together wins in the 6-7 years between the Benn fight when GM was what, 27-28, (assuming the tragedy didn't happen of course) and the point where most fighters decline to indicate he could be competitive with Artur, particularly given that GMs aggressive style and sometimes porous defence play to Beterbievs strengths
