Mercado knocked Hopkins down twice. McClellan would knock him down once, but he wouldn't get up. Hopkins is crafty, but not very mobile on his feet defensively.....McClellan by KO.
Mercado knocked him down, because Hopkins had yet to adopt the rigorous training schedule that allows him to be world class in his 40's - and because he was much more offensively inclined back then, taking chances. That's no the Hop who steps into the ring with McClellan. This Hop controls the ring and attacks when it's suitable, not just for the sake of throwing punches. That Bernard Hopkins is of a depth McClellan never faced. And you don't have to be mobile to be great defensively - see; Toney, James.
Hopkins comfortable decision. G-man had poor defensive reflexes and pulled his head straight back. Hopkins would defuse his attacks, take away his jab and put on a clinic. Both Toney and Hopkins would beat McClellan. He fought too much balls to the wall to beat those guys.
Hopkins manages 2 foul his way en route 2 a decision loss . Under just referee (extremely hypothetical he simply gets DQd after he prefers it that way rather than getting hammered in2 submission)
I think Hopkins probably wins this but he wouldn't be doing it by boxing and moving because McClellan is the better out fighter with the better jab and better right hand in my view. Hopkins would realise that he needed to come inside and maul GMAN because McClellan couldn't really fight too well up close. The workrate of a young Hopkins would also be too much for McClellan. I mean GMAN could knock him out too but if Hopkins realises he needs to make it an inside mauling he should win
Bernard Hopkins would easily neutralize G-Man's offense. It would be Hopkins-Pavlik all over again, with G-Man winning at least the first 3 rounds until Hopkins weathers the storm and figures him out.
