gerald mcclellan vs chris eubank sr or jr who wins?

I couldn't favour Jr over McClellan he's proven nothing so far and the way he fights would play to GMan's strengths.

Snr would be a very tough fight for GMan. McClellan hit hard but not even Thompson could KO Eubank Sr, he needed an injury to stop him, so GMan's vaunted power wouldn't help him much here. Eubank also preferred guys that came to him, he'd use his aggression against him and counter and box his way to a close decision. If Benn could beat GMan then so could Eubank.

People are looking at the Benn outcome as a gauge, it isn't. G-man went into that fight damaged. He hurts Benn and stops him mid rounds if healthy. Eubanks chin could be cracked like anyone else, if JC and Watson can drop Snr then G-man takes his head off and leaves at the entrance. McClellan shouldn't of even been in the ring with Benn !

 

If a cruiserweight with the one shot power of Thompson couldn't put Eubank down for the 10 count I doubt McCellan could. Thompson could spark guys out cold with one shot at any moment, he had immense power when he could connect, he even stopped Haye, he hit harder than the much smaller McClellan and remember this was against a faded Eubank that Thompson fought.

I agree that GMan shouldn't of been in the ring with Benn, but even if we exclude those fights we know GMan was easy to hit, Jackson had no problem finding his chin and he'd been out boxed before against worse fighters than Eubank Sr. GMan fell in love with his power and neglected his boxing skills prior to Benn. I think Eubank Sr with his immense durability and boxing skills would take advantage of GMan's poor defence, underused boxing skills and over reliance on his power.

 

True! Benn was already gone in the second round. Count took too long. I am a big fan of Nigel. This fight should have been a TKO in favour of the G-Man though.

Yeah from the moment his back hit the canvas to the moment he's up right and standing on his feet only 8 seconds elapses. The count wasn't long it's just a myth that people like the throw out there.

I think it's because the commentary says the ref usually gives a fighter more than 10 seconds to get back into the ring when Benn is knocked out of the ring and so people think he was down for more than 10 when it wasn't the case.

 

True that Eubank often lunged and then fell into his punches, which is why he tended to suck when guys tried to box with him like Watson, Close etc. GMan wouldn't try and box Eubank he'd try and blast him out and allow Eubank Sr to box, move and counter him as he comes it, we wouldn't see as much of that lunging Eubank as we saw when he faced true boxers who forced him to chase opponents.

I don't think Eubank was at his best vs Collins the schedule he was on was crazy at the time he was fighting every 2 months at the time which I think effected his performances. I think that Eubank is beatable and GMan could win that fight, but we are talking prime for prime, not when one or both of them are impaired.

Eubank earlier on was a better fighter, he wasn't drained at the weight or burned out from the crazy schedule he had set for himself to cash in as much as he could. Some will even say he was never the same after the 2nd Watson fight, he definitely lost some of his killer instinct as we saw when he let Collins off the hook after dropping him.

I agree McClellan had an iron chin himself he could take whatever Eubank threw at him, I never thought Eubank would stop a prime GMan.
