Pavlik has a chance if he can survive past 6 rounds, but the early rounds of the first Taylor fight suggest that he probably wouldn't last 6 rounds. Gerald in 5.
What a great fight this would be. My instinct is to favour G-Man due to his loftier reputation. But then I feel I should question it further somewhat. G-Man only ever beat Jackson and Mugabi as worthwhile opposition and I think it's more Jones refusal to face him that led to his fearsome reputation. He was then beaten by Benn. Compare that with Pavlick who only ever really beat Taylor, Miranda and Rubio as worthwhile opposition. He was then beaten by Hopkins and Martinez. Pavlick was schooled against Hopkins and there's no way GMan schools anyone ever. Martinez cut him to shreds with speed and movement and again that doesn't apply. GMan was banged out by Benn, do I think Kelly could show the same grit and power as Benn. Man I don't know now that I think about it. Taylor is the best victory by either man, by far. GMan has been knocked out and Kelly hasn't. I think it's a very close call now. But Kelly had, a certain aura about him which makes me want GMan to win a fight between these two.
McClellan wasn't "banged out" by Benn. He suffered a subdural hematoma. He took a knee, and then walked to his corner and collapsed. Did you even watch the fight?
I think you'll struggle to find anyone on this forum who hasn't watched it tbh. Of course the fight was tragic, but it was Benn and his power punches that led to the awful injury.
For some reason people seem to forget that. Pavlik was never knocked out-although he was hurt by Taylor. He has a shot at winning this. I'm of the thought that McClellan is overrated as well. Tell you what. I don't like him much but Mike McCallum beats McClellan.
I dunno what the point is in mentioning McCallum here. Mike was clearly a level above both these guys, and no one would dispute that. McClellan can be overrated in many instances, but the styles simply favor him to blow out Pavlik. Kelly never met a right hand he could avoid, and he was a bit too comfortable in eating them to do well in this matchup. He was able to whether the early storm from Taylor, but McClellan was undeniably a higher tier puncher and offensive force than the likes of Taylor. A much better finisher as well. It's not so much about McClellan being that much better than Pavlik, it's about the styles strongly favoring McClellan.
I mentioned McCallum in relation to say that McClellan was overrated. Gerald is generally treated as if he's some kind of atg on these boards, which he clearly is not.
