160 McClellan was an animal, but he did have noted weight problems, even at 168.

168 above Jones every day of the week.

At the time of Gerald's accident, he still wasn't a complete fighter. You could see that he was discouraged at times when he was fighting Benn because he couldn't put him away. His defense was awful and took too many flush shots. Also, he didn't seem to have great stamina in that fight.
He did know how to put his punches together well, and he was big and had a pretty good jab and speed.
One great thing gong for Gerald is that he beat RJJ in the amateurs, so he would have had a bit of confidence going for him.
I still thing Roy would have beaten him. RJJ would not have been foolish enough to let McClellan land too many bombs. Jones would have won a comfortable decision.

his biggest problem against Benn was simply that Benn would not be denied, although McClellan tragically lost the prime of his life, Benn peaked and lost it that same night.

Regarding the Benn fight I always see **** being thrown around.
McClellan would have stopped Benn @ 1 4 sure , but the extremely corrupt referee just didn't let him , also , Benn butted him later and also , McClellan was already damaged (by Jackson and sparring) goods coming in to that fight. I guess McClellan should have moved up to 168 earlier , maybe even debut there. McClellan > Benn whom was also exposed by Collins * 2 (Collins was just as shot and old as Benn was at that time so those 2 fights were very relevant) , Eubanks and Watson . Under fair refereeing , McClellan stops him @ 1 .
