A brutal, high stakes fight between two of the hardest hitting Middleweights . GGG a little too robust imo for the G-man,tho he'd have to take some frightening punches.
Talented as McClellan was he was always rough around the edges with his skills and had an obsession with going for the KO straight away which will backfire on him against a guy like Golovkin. GGG would be able to weather the storm and slowly pick apart the G-Man as the fight goes on and eventually break him down to a TKO late in the fight.
Golovkin should be favored. But, I don't think it is a guarantee. McClellan did have boxing skill in addition to his murderous punching power. And, absent the subdural hematoma, he had an iron chin. Emmanuel Steward had a middleweight McClellan spar with a prime Michael Moorer. And, from what I read, it was on even terms. Steward also made sure to keep LHW Hearns far away from Gerald. No way Golivkin is hurting McClellan. Golovkin had above average power, but, what decent prime fighter did Golovkin ever stop? Even against a limited guy like Lemieux it was a questionable accumulation stoppage. McClellan would kill a guy like Daniel Jacobs. It might not even last 2 rounds.
I see where your coming fromBert. Even though Golovkin should be favoured, I wouldn't write Gerald off completely. He would definitely be the hardest puncher that GGH faced i should imagine and even when hurt (tragic Benn fight) he still proved he could hurt someone. I'd say just be cautious in picking a puncher like McClellan.
McClellan got outboxed by Dennis Milton and Ralph Ward. Anytime a fight was extended into the 2nd half of the fight McClellan normally lost. Golovkin too durable too good he takes over in the 2nd half of the fight and wins by decision.
Not necessarily both have very good chins. McClellan only went down against Benn because of a brain bleed and even that was on his own accord. McClellan also took bombs off a massive puncher like Jackson without flinching. This fight could very well go the distance IMO.
Golovkin didnt have the defense to survive the onslaught of McCellan. Triple had a good chin but he'd be testing the limits of it when Gerald catches him square. McCellan took Julian Jackson's punches before KOing him. If Triple G took Gerald's clean punches amd walked through them thats something I'd have to see to believe.
