I've got to agree with this post entirely and some people in this thread are being way, way too harsh.
I go by what I saw him display in his fights. Steward also said Wlad is the hardest puncher he's ever worked with, it's hype. G-Man had good timing to an extent, against people that came straight at him. I have to plead complete ignorance and say I can't remember the handwrap thing, please elaborate :good :rasta
Here's Manny Steward's opinion on Jorge Linares: ''This may be the greatest fighter I have ever saw'' So, yeah. Is Manny Steward a great trainer? Yep, one of the best. Does Manny Steward talk up his fighters to an extremely overwhelming degree? Yes he does, he's said a lot of eyebrow-raising things regarding the likes of Klitschko and Andy Lee, the man who trained him isn't going to downplay his talents. Anyways, how a crusierweight who fought at super middle can be called ''great'' is a bit of a head-scratcher for me. I'm sure if David Haye was taking on 168 pounders he'd look pretty damn good too. He was a guy who was humungous at the weight who flourished against opponents who came right to him, while not exactly displaying the kind of traits you'd associate with many ''great'' fighters. I don't believe that dominating through size rather than skill is something to be regarded very highly.
Agree with Flea Man, we all make mistakes do we ? So you forgive Ian Huntley you sick twat SS. Animal cruelty is worst kind of crime in my eyes, so i hope he gets cancer of testicles.
Frank Maloney once called Manny Stewards 'Money *****'. For all Manny's qualities he's controlled by that moolah!.
"A dog is what you make of it. I could train a poodle to be as vicious as a pitbull, not vicious as regards the damage that a pitbull could do but a dog is what you make of it. I know some people that have got pitbulls that you can walk down the street with em off the leash & he will run up to a dog or a cat and wont touch it. But the one I have, if I let him loose in the street he would eat another dog, he'd eat a cat, a squirrel, he just hates other animals. Anything thats on the ground and moving like him he's just got it in his mind that he must destroy it." McClellan
That's how McClellan fought himself! As much as I don't rate him all that much, I've always loved watching him fight. Was devastating In the Mugabi and 2nd Jackson fight, the first Jackson fight is very entertaining, and despite the nasty ending his fight with Benn was a classic.
1st Jackson fight was good, the 2nd, meh. Mugabi wasnt great as the beast had clearly seen better days. "When I'm in the ring with another fighter, I look across the ring & see this guy I have so much hate for, so much desire to knock him unconscious" I think hes overrated because of his current circumstances, he could punch but gassed quickly & got sloppy. Anyone who lasted past the 1st 3 rounds had a chance & Jones would have clowned him.
Mo, if you'd read the rest of the thread you'd have seen I've already addressed why they weren't particularly impressive wins. My point is that he looked devastating in them, and they're aesthetically pleasing to watch. As I say, I don't really rate him. If not Benn, someone else would've exposed his shortcomings. Benn was supposedly tailor made for him, and not a big 168lber. And despite the circumstances, Benn beat him. Why some still think he was capable of incredible feats I don't know :good
Just read it all through. On an unrelated note, do you know anyone who cut as much weight as Gman? I remember 1 fight (think it was the 2nd jackson one)at 160 where he came into the ring at 180. Crazy. And he used to spar with HWs with no headgear on.
He cut a mad amount of weight, especially considering his size. Sparring Heavys with no headgear will not have been good for him, but does reaffirm how nails he was. I'm not sure about amount, but in terms of those tight at the weight Kalule found it ridiculously hard to make 154lbs, even from the get-go. Sot Chitalada is a good shout. He was a Lightweight in good nick cutting down to Fly. Supposedly the first stone was easy, but 17,18lbs was horrific for him. Dunno' how je remained so mobile and sharp in the ring, it eventually caught up with him of course and he put in some very lethargic performances before getting wasted at the end of his career. He was getting through on sheer will it seems.
I think that's about right mate. Doesn't Chavez Jr come in at like 180 when fighting as a 'middleweight'?
