No chance, how would Mclellon lose to someone who can't even throw a left hook.

Kessler is much too good of a boxer. If he has the chin he decisions G Man. McClellan wasn't an impressive boxer but he had bombs. A quality boxer or a better brawler could beat him.

McClellan could definitely box, he just totally fell in love with his power when he started to become high profile in the sport.

ah come on now jeff, i think your doing monzon a disservice there

as for the kessler-mc clellan fight, its so hard to pick a winner. kessler was beaten by calzaghe cos of angles and workrate imo and mc clellan doesnt present those problems and what people dont seem to pick up on kessler is the size of the man, hes huge for the weight.
coming in at each other straight on kesslers jab output would cause mc clellan issues but then the g-man has that x factor. it has to be a g-man mid rounds KO or a kessler UD..........il go for mc clellan

Blimey, how over rated is Mclellan??

His best wins were a past it Mugabe and J Jackson (both at middle), outside of this its only the first round v Benn with which his rep is based and all 3 were vulnerable chin wise.

A big part of Mclellans make up was boiling down to middle and putting a big amount back on for the fight (like alot of fighters) which is one of the reasons he was such a beast at middle, however i'm sure he only weighed something like 11st10lbs for the Benn fight (could be wrong here though) which suggests he'd be nothing like the same animal at s Mid.

    Cant believe this thread, Madness

    Kessler all night long

Nigel Benn could box but, even Joe Frazier could use a jab but it's about what they did in the ring.

I've no doubt G Man could box but like you say he was in love with his power.

Prince Naseem could box but he also fell in love with his power.

Kessler can and will box for every second of every round and he'll just keep firing and scoring. G Man hasn't got the boxing IQ to beat Kessler.

If Kessler has a quality chin then he'll outbox G Man.

McCllellan came in at 11 stone 11 lbs for the Benn fight Hooch.

    He made the weight comfortably.

I picked McCllellan by stoppage just because I think he has the power to hurt Kelsser that Calzaghe did not have.

However the Benn fight proved that McCllellan believed his own hype that he would

"never have to go beyond 3 rounds"

as a result he had zero defence and no head movement

and Kelsser has the power to hurt a man who dosent move his head and dosent know how to defend himself

so whoever wins this - it will probaly be a KO or TKO either way

I think one of the most glaring things about the Benn fight was the lack of uppercuts from McClellan. There were several times he had Benn in trouble, leaning forward with his gloves round his ears and wide open for shots up the middle but he just kept wailing away with wide hooks and crosses that Benn was able to block/ avoid.

I think Monzon just wasn't particuarly great..... Great record yes but great records don't always mean a great fighter h2h..... Imagine Calzaghe Vs Jones jnr, Toney etc etc... thats not even the upper echelon of his weight class.

Monzon vs Hagler, Robinson, Hearns, Leonard etc etc would be a one sided mismatch.

Gerald McCllellan and Enzo Maccarenelli had ths same weakness I feel

They both believed in their power way too much and as a result they never thought about defence

McCllellan had next to no defence in the Benn fight - its why I believe he ended up with a blood clot - he took so many vicious blows cleany because he didnt even have the defensive habits of covering himself up with his gloves

Look at Enzo Maccarenelli too - when David Haye had him in the corner unloading - Enzo didnt have a clue how to defend himself. He didnt cover up with his gloves - he didnt try to bob and weave on the ropes - he just try to cling onto to Haye and left himself totally exposed for more clean flush blows which dropped him.

McCllelan would KO him, in his prime he really was a beast. Kessler wouldnt be able to take what Benn took in that first round.
