Not really. Go back and watch it again, and this is coming from a massive Benn fan, the ref saved him. He was about to get blasted out again, and repeatedly the ref stepped in, pushed McClellan back and found some bull**** reason to talk to one or both fighters to give Benn more time to recover. An impartial ref, and Benn is stopped in the first round.
Wrong!!! [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dc-G4KMOllU[/ame] The Ref stepped in when Benn was holding McClellan..? and McClellan was struggling to get out of the clinch.... All Refs do this, look at how Benn repeatably clinched McClellan, and he was not strong enough to break the clinch! towards the end of the round, Benn's strength was climbing and McClellan struggled even more so. Benn was already starting to fight back hard with 1min 40seconds left in the round. It was one of the most if not the most heroic display of boxing toughness ever seen in the british boxing ring. Look at the left hook Benn lands at the 59sec mark! from the first knock-down McClellan had nearly 2mins to stop Benn! If he was going to ****ing stop him, he would of. McClellan made a big mistake pissing Benn off!!!

You're way off. At 19.44 of that clip, Benn is back inside the ring on his feet. The ref checks him and waves the fight on at 19.46. As McClellan runs in at 19.48, the ref pushes him back and gets inbetween the two men. At 19.59 Benn is hanging on, but has only just grabbed hold and McClellan is looking to shake him off and throw from the inside and the ref steps in to break them. Not needed, but not controversial. After separating them, he then pushes McClellan back, as he tries to move back in he puts both hands on his chest and pushes him back again, to give Benn more time. At 20.20 the ref jumps in to separate them again, again when the clinch had only just begun. It is always the post break behaviour that is bad and it is here again. The commentary team even say "The French referee is pushing McClellan off which wont please him much". Watt then says "The French referee has been very kind to Benn". The next break is fine. Then at 20.46 he breaks them and makes up some bull**** reason to reprimand Benn, which really equates to more time to recover. At 21.15 he steps in AGAIN, when McClellan has just thrown Benn off from the attempted clinch and he starts warning Benn about holding on, but again it's just more time to recover and play out the clock. Then once Benn actually does have McClellan tied up and McClellan doesn't look like shaking him off and landing shots, the ref leaves it and lets Benn hang on for the last 10 seconds or so. Watching it all the way through again, it was not as bad as I remember, but it was definitely biased and definitely helpful to Benn, in those early clinches, he was still taking short shots and McClellan would easily have wrestled clear of his arms and landed.
That's true and I wasn't disagreeing with you which is why I didn't quote your post about the fight, but the one saying Benn was not lucky. Although as I said above, having watched it again it was not as bad as memory suggested.
Sorry strike thats shite mate, mcclellan hit ben with everything In that round, the ref let it go on, benn was ****ed but still throwing. Im with Pk on this,pk is right, nice one pk. And ive watched the fight many a time, more than porn, i love the fight possibly my fave fight of the 90s, benn was awesome, he sickened him,sad ending obviously, but benn sickened him, the gman was just not all that, a massive banger but not great stylist
The fact of the matter is, McClellan was not able to break any clinch! why couldn't he break Benn's clinch at the end of the round..? And he was not able to break it early in the round..... If Benn was so hurt he would of easily broke breaks clinch instantly, but he was unable to. The Ref was to Benn with the count, and letting him get back into the ring! after the first knockdown, but that's about it! Benn was fighting back hard with 1min 40seconds remaining..... If McClellan was going to stop him, he should of! He had almost two minutes, and it was his own fault that he was allowing Benn to tie him up, and whenever fighters clinch a ref always breaks them up! Do you remember Holyfield vs Tyson I, the ref was constantly breaking them up to. To completely write off Benn, and state that the ref saved him is completely ****ing ignorant and the most stupidest comment i have EVER heard on this fight. It is officially the most ****ing ******ed statement i have ever heard on this fight.

No way. I listed the clinches. In the first one, Benn had been holding on for about 2 seconds when the ref stepped in, McClellan was already shaking him loose. At 21.15, Benn clinches and McClellan pulls his arms free and is about to throw when the ref jumps in, pushes G-Man back and warns Benn for holding. No he wasn't. He threw about 5 shots and landed one good one, the rest of the time he was desperately grabbing hold or ducking illegally low. Go **** yourself you mug. Every ****ing comment from you is calling someone ******ed or this or that. The ref helped him out big time. I already stated that it was not as bad as my memory had me believe. Talking about ******ed comments is rich coming from someone who was telling us all how Audley would be Hayes biggest ever test. Anyway I'm going to bed. Carry on chatting **** over a difference of opinion.
andre the irish g ward on points mcclennan was good but didnt get tested enough for us to be thinking he was something special
Agreed....we did nt see enough of him to find out how good he really could of been, we just seen him in his early days coming through knocking all the stiffs over. His two fights with jackson are not enough to ******t the praise he still gets from some people on here
