How great was he? He was the man that took prime welterweight SRR to the brink in 2 very close fights. He had a chin made of titanium, never KO'd in 143 fights, and only been (reportedly) knocked down twice, against top flight competition and a handful of ATGs. He was a show onto himself with his flashy style and made the bolo punch popular. A crowd-pleasing aggressive fighter who would throw everything, including the kitchen sink and the dirty plates at you during the course of the fight. Never ducked anyone and fought everyone and their cat during a great boxing era that ranged from 1943 to 1958. A top-5 welterweight and a case can be made for top 35 ATG.

    Thoughts?

I think you basically answered your own question.

I'll throw in that he was one of the most unique, versatile, intelligent, and resilient fighters I've ever seen. He could solve and adapt to almost any style, and it seemed he could pull almost any fight out of the fire.
